Chapter 66

Y/n POV

We walk through the hot desert as Sammy pants from exhaustion, "Guys? I know we're in a desert, but it feels like it got way hotter all of a sudden." I wipe the sweat off my forehead... it does seem hotter. "So, how do we get onto the saber-tooth's feeding platform without being dessert?" ask Yasmina and Brooklyn responds, "We have to time it just right. We'll hide nearby, and after the tiger eats and leaves, we jump on the platform before it goes back down."

"Good plan, chief," exclaims Kenji smiling as Brooklyn pushes him away as a joke. "We should have brought water... somehow," comments Aleem. The air up ahead is wavy due to the heat and yet there's a figure up ahead. "What is that?" questions Brooklyn, the figure gets closer and my eyes widen as it growls and roars at us. "That's new," said Brooklyn as Aleem shouts out, "Spinosaurus!"

The Spino begins to run towards us which promptly causes us to run away screaming in fear. While re run Ben exclaims, "Why is that doing here?!" Sammy shouts, "I didn't know they made 'em that big!" Brooklyn spots in gap in the rock canyon before point us towards it, "Come on! In there!" We struggle to squeeze through but thankfully we managed to enter before the Spinosaurus smashes its head into the rock wall.

It roars and we run deeper into the canyon to get away from the dinosaur. The shade from the rocks does feel nice as Sammy comments, "It can't get to us in here. Right?" Aleem speaks out, "As long as we stay in these narrow paths then we should be safe from the Spino."

A deep growl is heard ahead as Brooklyn and Kenji gasp since they're the two ahead of the group. Green eyes appear in the dark and seem to be approaching, the creature walks into the light revealing itself as the saber-toothed tiger. "This keeps getting better," Ben says with sarcasm as we start to run away.

Brooklyn ends up running into a dead end and Kenji asks, "Any more ideas, chief?" The saber-toothed tiger snarls as we scream as it gets closer to us. I don't know when it happened but Aleem and Brooklyn stood in the front trying to protect the rest of us as the beast jumped at us. Suddenly, a rock in the wall breaks as the head of the Spinosaurus peeks through and drags the tiger away as it cries out.

Aleem breathes heavily before blurting out, "How did that just happen?!"

There was no time to question as the Spino pushed it's head through the hole causing us to scream. "Go around!" shouts Brooklyn as we're barely able to squeeze by the snapping maw of the Spino. We run with speed out of the canyon as Brooklyn exclaims, "Come on. We have to make it to the platform before it lowers."

We have been practically sprinting when I see the feeding platform begin to lower itself in front of us. Once we reach it, the platform is already out of view, just leaving a deep dark void as Yasmina informs, "The next one won't be here for hours." Brooklyn suddenly jumps in without saying anything as Kenji yells, "Brooklyn!"

I cover my mouth as I expect to hear something, anything. Instead we hear Brooklyn shout out, "Come on! Hurry!" We look at each other before we all jump in unison. I brace my legs as we fall and hitting the ground was not pleasant at all. I fell onto my stomach in pain as my legs shook. Aleem had fallen onto his back but he got up quickly but he did stumble a little. Ben helps me stand up as Brooklyn is already running without us.

We run to catch up to her as she reaches a panel and inputs something which causes it to beep. "The med bay should be straight ahead," she said as she started to run into that direction. We follow her until we arrive into the med bay, we continue to run when suddenly in the distance Darius jumps out of an elevator at the last moment.

"Darius!" exclaims Sammy as Darius runs towards us happily. "Oh, thank goodness!" said Brooklyn as she hugs Darius. We all join in on the hug as Yasmina says, "Oh, you're okay," and Kenji says, "We were worried, dude." I added, "Never go somewhere alone again," and Aleem says, "We need to stay together."

The elevator dings which causes Darius to gasp and we run to hide from Kash, I assume. Once we're hiding Darius asks us, "How'd you make it down here?" Kenji answers him, "Brooklyn. It was dicey for a minute, but she got us out of it." She pushes her hair behind her ear shyly at Kenji's response before turning towards Darius to ask him, "What happened?"

"I was about to stop the fight, but the phone was right there. I'm sorry. I wanted to get us all home, but Kash caught me, and now, we're still stuck, and the dinosaurs are hurt real bad and-," Darius is cut off by Yasmina, "Darius. It's okay. You did what you thought was right. But it's like you said, we're the only ones who can help the dinosaurs here. We have to stay."

Darius looked at us, it seemed like he was about to have a breakdown but thankfully that was stopped. "On that note, we should get out of here before psycho killer comes back," said Brooklyn but Darius stops us, "Wait." We look at him as he explains, "Kash is planning on using Mae's language to control the dinosaurs."

I gasp in horror at the information he just told us. "What?" said Yasmina, surprised as Sammy says, "That's terrible." Aleem growls, "So that freak is now planning on mind controlling them in a way." "How?" asks Kenji but Darius isn't sure, "Don't know, but it's got something to do with these chips." He pulls out a tiny chip that looks more like a pill, "Guys, I know it sounds nuts, but I think the only way to find out how to stop this is if-," Brooklyn cuts him off, "You stay here."

"Look, if I run now, he'll hunt me down and find the rest of you. But if I'm on the inside..." Darius lets Brooklyn continue for him, "You can find a way to get us information. Then, we can do whatever we can to undo Kash's plans." Kenji says, "It makes sense." Ben objects, "Ah! It's crazy. He tried to kill Mae. He'll do the same to you." Darius points out, "He hasn't yet."

"No. No way. We stick together. No one gets left behind," protests Yasmina, Sammy looks at the elevator and worriedly says, "Guys, he's coming back. We have to decide, like, right now." Aleem interjects, "Darius you shouldn't do this alone. At least have some backup." Darius shakes his head, "No. He only knows about me. Please, this is the only way."

We all look at each other and reluctantly accept Darius' plan. "Darius... please be careful," I say as he nods and heads towards the elevator before it opens. He holds the chip in his hand as Kash's furious look vanishes as Darius explains, "Saw this on the floor." Though you might need it. Kash walks out of the elevator and takes the chip from Darius.

It seems that Darius is trying to gain Kash's trust, I suppose that's the best way he can go. I just hope everything goes well. I don't want him to get hurt. We start to stealthily walk away so Kash doesn't notice us.
