Chapter 61

Y/n POV

Eventually the four of us got to Mae Turner and we told her what happened. Of course, she was surprised and followed us to get to the others. We reached the door of the airlock and opened it. The others were already near the door as Mae exclaims, "The plane left without you?" They all look rather disappointed or sad as Mae adds, "I'm so sorry. I don't understand what's going on here, but you have my word that I'll get you off this island somehow."

Darius suddenly spoke up, "No." He walks forward, "We're not leaving. Obviously, this isn't what we wanted. But we can't quit now. Mantah Corp doesn't care if they're hurting their dinosaurs. And Mae, you can't protect them all on your own. We have to stay until we fix this, however long it takes." Everyone else doesn't seem too convinced. Yes, I myself know that this company won't stop hurting the dinosaurs for whatever monetary gain they want. But, to stay any longer on this island is a lot for us.

"Sure. Whatever you say," answers Yasmina rather reluctantly. "Let's get to work, then. We've gotta get Pierce back to the desert biome. And if the plane's gone, that means the new dinosaur food has already been unloaded," Mae explains as we head towards the airlock. Brooklyn chimes in, "We'll go check the T-rex area to make sure the BRADs haven't tainted their food."

Sammy speaks up as she grabs onto Yasmina, "Y'all, Yaz and I are both wrecked, so we're gonna go get some rest if it's cool." "Of course," Brooklyn answers without question, Ben agrees, "Yeah, don't worry about it." Yasmina explains, "After you're all done, we'll meet at Mae's and figure out a game plan to protect those dinos." We head into the airlock and Pierce is acting up. "You all stay back. He's clearly agitated, and I don't want him to..." Mae didn't finish her sentence as Pierce spots us.

He roars and starts running into our direction as Mae shouts, "Pierce!" We try to get out of his way but Darius falls down, thankfully he didn't get trampled. Ben runs up to him and helps him up, Darius pulls him back as Pierce begins to swing his tail. Mae runs in front of us and exclaims, "Pierce, stop!" He roars again as she continues, "Stop, Pierce, stop." She starts to place an audio on her tablet as she repeats, "Calm."

Pierce groans back and Mae reads from her tablet, "Scared? Yes." Moving closer to Pierce with her hand extended, "But... you don't have to be scared. Cause we're gonna take you..." She plays another audio, "Home." He groans back and Mae assures, "That's right, darling. Home."

This is incredible, by using audios associated with feelings and other topics she was able to talk to a dinosaur. "She... she just talked to a dinosaur," Darius exclaimed in awe. Ben jealous responds, "Pfft, she did it with fancy science buttons. Bumpy and I found a way to talk through here." He places a hand over where his heart should be, "The biggest button of all." Darius loses his smile and just stares at him with an expression that says 'That wasn't necessary.'

Ben notices his face and almost stutters, "But, yeah. That was super cool. Heh." I almost let a giggle out but manage to stay put. To be fair Ben and I are able to somewhat communicate with Bumpy because she imprinted on us after she came out of her egg. I do hope Aleem is doing well checking up on the food with Kenji and Brooklyn.

~Time Skip~

We managed to get Pierce into the desert biome but Darius was questioning Mae, "So now you decide to just drop, 'Oh, yeah, I can speak to dinosaurs but whatever.'" She chuckles as she responds, "I guess hiding my personal side project from you all isn't necessary anymore. I was waiting to develop the research more before I shared it with Mantah Corp... Not sure if I'm still doing that now."

Ben agrees, "Yeah. I'd follow that instinct." I add on, "I think it's very understandable." Darius begins to ask, "Could I... could I try?" Mae stops walking as she hears him and turns towards him. He smiles almost squealing as she says, "Go on, then, you've earned it." He grabs the tablet exclaiming, "Yes." He runs up to Pierce and plays an audio, "Friend. I'm your friend." Pierce grunts and sniffs him before cuddling his head towards Darius, almost lifting him up off the ground.

I turn to Ben smiling, "He seems quite happy." Before Ben can say anything Pierce tosses him off onto the ground. "Oh...," I whisper with a bit of disappointment. Darius grumbles but Mae comforts him, "Don't be discouraged, mate. It takes time to build a bond with a dinosaur." As Mae follows Pierce and Ben states, "Actually, Bumpy and I hit it off right away." Darius frowns and gets up before walking ahead without saying anything.

I jab Ben lightly in the side as he exclaims, "What!" I chastise him, "Don't rub it into Darius." Ben looks down a bit ashamed and asks, "Too soon?" I nod silently as we do a light jog to catch up with Mae and Darius.

Once we caught up to the others we notice that something must have frightened Pierce because he started to act up, almost hurting us. Ben yelps as his spiked tail almost hits him. Mae tries to calm Pierce down, "Calm down, Pierce. Calm down. Safe." She places an audio on the tablet and repeats, "Safe."

Pierce stops freaking out and growls softly, Mae gently grabs Pierce's face. "Poor thing has to be starving," Mae says as she pets Pierce. Ben hears a noise coming from behind and picks up a rock about to throw it. Kenji stops running and gasps, falling down. Brooklyn and Aleem are behind him, Brooklyn gasps out, "Little Eatie is still hurt. The med BRADs you called never went to help her."

Darius questions Mae, "How could your orders be overridden? I thought there was no communication on or off the island." Mae responds, "There isn't. Someone must be here giving counter orders." Then she says a name subtly laced with venom

"Kash."
