Chapter 43

Y/N POV

I saw Sammy open her eyes slowly as Darius yells out, "Somebody get bandages!" Kenji was unsure and Ben said, "Sammy, everything's gonna be okay. You know, some supplies we can get or something?" I tried to lift Sammy as Kenji came running and stop in front of us. Yasmina came and shouted, "Sammy! Sammy!" Brooklyn came with bandages and said, "Yaz! The quills are poisonous. We gotta take them out of her." Brooklyn got ready to pull them out as I, because I already did Aleem. "Okay, on my count. This is gonna hurt. I'm sorry." "One, two, three!" We pulled quickly as she screamed in pain, Brooklyn started to bandage her up.

"Sammy? Sammy?! Sammy!" shouted Yasmina as Sammy closed her eyes and fell limp. Before I could react I saw Aleem fall limp to his side. "No!" I yelled as I went to him, someone brought pillows and they placed Sammy's head on it. I gently placed Aleem's head on another one. Thankfully they weren't limp anymore but they stirred in their unwanted sleep. I looked at both their skins and saw they had a green tint, this is worse then I thought. They shiver yet have a high fever. "Taking out the quills wasn't enough. The poison's already in their systems. They need an antidote." said Darius as he turned back. "Oh, sure, yeah, an antidote. That'll be easy to find, considering no one even knew this thing existed" said Kenji.

"Maybe the medical supply station has something?" suggested Ben. "Doubt it" said Kenji, Darius agreed, "Kenji's right. The Scorpios rex wasn't supposed to ever get out." But Brooklyn gasped when she remembered something, "The video on Wu's old lab! He was attacked by the Scorpios, and they were giving him this shot from a red vial. I think they said antidote, I'm not-" Yasmina interrupts Brooklyn, "Where's this lab?" Brooklyn takes out a map from her jacket and hands it to her. "Near the Raptor paddock" said Brooklyn. Yasmina looks at the map and hands it back to Brooklyn, "Take care of Sammy until I get back." Before I could exclaim that she forgot to mention Aleem she ran away.

"Wait, Yaz! The Scorpios went that way!" yelled Darius. She yelled angrily back, "I don't care what's out there. I'm saving her." I frown at her words, does she not care for Aleem? He's laying down next to Sammy, she couldn't have forgotten. "This is nuts! She can't outrun that thing" said Ben. "We have to figure out a way to help her somehow" exclaimed Brooklyn. Darius started to think, "Okay. What do we know so far about this dinosaur?" Kenji gave some of his points, "It's straight-up terrifying, it climbs, breathes like a pug with a cold, and it moves weird." Kenji tries to imitate it and coughs. I started to think about how it got distracted by the fire, my eyes widened once I realized what it was.

"Heat vision!" I screamed they looked at me and I explained, "It got distracted by fire and most likely saw our heat when we peeked out which means something with greater heat will distract it." Darius gave it a thought, "The explosion from the lighting? Our explosion will be better, bigger, louder, fierier and hotter." Ben joined, "I'm in. I know the jungle better than anyone. Plus, bigger, louder, fierier-- those are all my favorite words. Try to keep up." He began to run as Darius looks at him flabbergasted. "You do realize that this plan of yours is a complete long shot" said Kenji. "Yeah. But we gotta try, right?" asked Darius. Brooklyn sighed and said, "Good luck."

Darius begins to run after Ben, when Aleem and Sammy groaned and stirred more. Brooklyn got a wet towel and placed it on both of their heads. "We got you two. Ya'll gonna be okay" said Brooklyn. Brooklyn looks back and sees Kenji worried, "Hey, Kenji? Can you get some more water?" He looks around and then nods as he walks away, silently. Brooklyn kneels next to Sammy then looks at me, "Can you take care of him? Just talk to him. I can't do both at the same time." I nod and grab Aleem's hand as Brooklyn talked to Sammy, "Sammy, can you hear me? I need you to hurry up and get better, okay? I mean, think about how much fun it's gonna be to dunk on Ben about how you're actually the immortal one."

She looks at me, "No offense." I smiles slightly and said, "None taken. He needs to be taken down a notch. I bet Aleem will love to boast that to Ben. The brother is better then the boyfriend, I suppose." I rub his hand and say, "You better get better, or you won't be able to pursue your actual passion." Kenji arrives and places the gallon of water near us, he hugs himself and shuffles away. Brooklyn talks to him, "You can come closer, you know. She's not contagious." Kenji denies, "Nah. You just look like you got things on lock, so I'm just.... gonna not." Brooklyn looks at me and then gets up to talk to Kenji as I look after both. "Kenji, it's okay. I'm scared, too" said Brooklyn, Kenji surprised, "What? You are?"

"Yeah. I just, like, freely admitted that" said Brooklyn. Aleem and Sammy stir and their teeth chatter. "I'm not... scared. I mean, I am, I just... What if they... None of my friends have ever..." Kenji got stopped by Brooklyn, "Don't say it. Yaz is gonna come back with the antidote, and then everything will be fine." Kenji hugs himself as he doubts, "What if she doesn't find it? Or what what of it doesn't work? What if.... there isn't enough?" Brooklyn grabs his shoulder, "Kenji? Kenji, look at me." Kenji finally looks at her directly, "The only thing we can control is helping them feel better. And right now, we have to do whatever we can." Kenji nods but still looks upset as he continues hugging himself.

Ben POV

Darius had managed to catch-up to me since I slowed down a bit. "Now, I have some ideas for how this should go. One, you create a diversion while I blow something up. Two, I create a diversion while we both blow something up. Three, forget the diversions altogether, I blow something up!" I said as I looked behind myself. "Yep, yep, yeah! I got it, thanks. Whatever that is, it's gotta be big enough and high enough so that the Scorpios can't miss it" said Darius. A thought came to my mind, "I know just the thing" I said and began to run faster. "How do you know where you're going?" asked Darius. I turned and said, "Told you, I spent a lot of time wandering this place with... Bumpy" my tone got sadder once I mentioned her.

"What about Y/n?" asked Darius, I turned back around and changed the topic, "We gotta move faster. Aleem, Sammy, and Yaz are counting on us." I heard a dinosaur and pulled Darius down to the ground with me. Darius tries to get back up but I pulled him down as flock of pteranodons flies above us. I grab a two giant leaves and hand one over to Darius, "Hold this above your head if you don't wanna get snatched." We walked as they continued overhead, I didn't want to experience that again. I held my leaf tightly as Darius lags behind. I ran to different trees and inspected them, "I know it's here somewhere." I saw the tree with an X marked on it, "There!" I ran to it and looked under the leaves and bushes.

"Gasoline? Dude, how much did you take?" asked Darius as  I pulled out the canister. "Not much. I figured we had plenty to get to Costa Rica, so I stashed some away, you know, in case of a rainy day." I said. Darius sighs and says, "Ben, you beautiful, disturbed, beautiful boy." Then he thought about something and asked, "Does Y/n know about.... your fascinations with explosions. Because to me it seems like you really want to cause one." I look away and mumbled, "She doesn't know. She's been spending more time with Aleem then me. Figures I suppose. So most of the time I stay alone with Bumpy." "Oh..." said Darius, "Everything alright though?" he asked, I nod, "Let's get going."
