Chapter 42

3rd POV

Darius walked as he looked at his field guide trying to find answers. "What kind of dinosaur kills then drags its victim up into a tree?" Darius asked himself, flipping though the pages. "This doesn't make sense." Leaves rustle as he screams, looking into that direction. He slowly walks backwards, he hears more rustling and turns around. He screams as he falls onto the ground. More screams are heard as Sammy and Brooklyn run into Darius and fall as well. "Darius! Oh, my gosh!" yelled Brooklyn. "We saw this thing...", "It was on a video, and Dr. Wu was supposed to destroy it, but then he froze it, and it got out-", both Sammy and Brooklyn tried to speak at the same time.

"Help!" the three heard someone scream, they turned and saw Y/n and Aleem. Aleem was limping and breathing heavily as he leaned his weight on Y/n, who was struggling to keep him standing. Aleem skin was off colored as he closed his eyes and clenched his jaw. The three gasped as Darius asked, "What's going on?" Y/n swallowed and spoke, "We got attacked while looking for drinks... Aleem got hit by it, I think it's poison!" Pulls out a rag with the quill-like structure. Darius gasped recognizing them, "Those... those were on the tree and the Gallimimus." Brooklyn walked up, "I know what it is. We found Dr. Wu's  lab where they made the Indominus rex,... and other hybrid dinosaurs."

"There's more than one hybrid?" asked Darius. Brooklyn nods and said "He called it the 'Scorpius rex'". Sammy continued, "And it's loose on the island!" "If you think the Indominus was bad..." said Brooklyn as Sammy added, "This one's way more unstable!" Darius pensively said, "This is why the dinosaurs have been acting strange." Y/n's eyes widen, "Are you telling me that thing has 'Scorpion' in it's name. I was right! Aleem's been poisoned!" Brooklyn then said, "We can't wait any longer. We have to leave this island. Now." Aleem shivered, "Y/n... I'm scared", his eyes were hazy. I looked down at the make-shift tourniquet, it was badly done. "Please let's first try patching up Aleem! Maybe find a way to get rid of the poison?" said Y/n.

Y/n POV

Nobody answered since Brooklyn and Sammy had already started to run, Darius turned to us and said, "We need to hurry." I grunted as Aleem almost fell, "Please help me carry him." Darius looked in the direction the girls ran and nodded as he went to Aleem's right side and grabbed him. Hopefully we'll get their faster now. While speed-walking Darius grabbed his radio and said "Kenji!" He responded with, "That's Captain Kenj. You were the one who wanted to use code names". Darius didn't give him time to continue as he yelled, "Hey! We have to get out of here right now!" Kenji replied, "What? What do you-" he got cut of by Darius, "There's another hybrid dinosaur! It's worse then the Indominus." 

Yasmina voice was heard, "How? I don't understand." I yelled, "No time!" Then Darius yelled, "Grab the supplies and meet us at the boat!" "About the supplies..." said Kenji, Darius groans frustrated, "Kenji!" Kenji tried to explain himself, "I was too busy handling things." "We need that stuff!" yelled Darius, Kenji then said "I know! I got this!" The radio was silent for a bit then Kenji spoke with more authority, "Yaz will go ahead to the boat and get it ready for launch. Ben and I will pack up the essentials. Darius, Y/n and I hope Aleem, Brooklyn, and Sammy are with you. Swing by the camp and help us carry everything." Darius said, "Copy that. See you soon."

~Time Skip~

"We're here. What can we do?" asked Darius. Everyone started to collect stuff but I kept holding Aleem as he got less stable by the minute. Yasmina came running in and Kenji asked, "Yaz? Why aren't you at the dock?" Yasmina panted from running so fast, "The surf is way too intense to cast off. Boat's already taking on water. No way to leave until the seas calm down." Sammy asked, "So, we're stuck? With the Scorpius out there?" Kenji tried to help by saying, "Avoiding killer dinos is kind of our thing." But Brooklyn broke it, "Not like this killer dino." Darius added, "We've only survived this long because we know how dinosaur should act. With the Scorpius rex on a rampage, all bets are off. Soon... survival will be impossible."

Kenji went up to Darius, "Don't beat yourself up. There's nothing anyone could have done." Darius got angry as he pointed at Kenji, "You could have done the one thing I asked you to do. Then we could've made it to the boat." Kenji retaliated, "Well, I'm sorry I didn't anticipate the new, scarier Fraken-dino. My bad." Darius snapped back, "You said you had everything handled!" Kenji added, "I did until Ben of the Jungle ran off!" Ben angrily said, "Hey! I didn't ask you to follow me. Besides, whether or not I was here, you could've grabbed more than your bag and hair gel." Yasmina defends Kenji, "That's not fair. He was worried about you." Brooklyn spoke up, "Okay. What's important right now is that we come up with a plan."

Aleem got to heavy and fell onto his bottom, "Aleem!" I yelled as the others looked. I felt his forehead, I flinched, "He's burning!" Ben asked, "What happened to him?" Brooklyn approached Aleem as she fixed the tourniquet and said, "He got hit by the Scorpius." The clueless ones gasped, now they know what will happen if they get hit. "I can't help much" I said as I grabbed Aleem, "He needs my help and more. I can't do this alone." Darius spoke, "Well, while we wait for the storm to pass, let's do what we can to shore up the perimeter fence. Just in case." I stayed with Aleem as everyone else fortified the fence. Brooklyn checked up on Aleem every now and then. They managed to find a car battery that had power so they connected it to the fence.

Kenji threw a branch at the fend and it gets electrocuted, I just hope it's enough for that thing. I saw Ben trying to calm Bumpy down from the lighting but she ended up running away as he screamed, "Bumpy!" I heard a noise and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, Aleem started to breath heavily too. He knew, I knew, "It's here..." I whispered scared. Everyone started to get into defensive positions. I managed to move Aleem into the safest spot in the camp, it was a tight squeeze but hopefully it won't get the hit on him again. It started to rain and the fence released sparks sparingly reacting to the rain. Then I saw it, that thing, it was here. Everyone screamed as it started to ram into the fence.

I saw them try to take a peek and then it stood up on it's hind legs and roared. Everyone screamed, and I hugged Aleem tightly as his teeth chattered and shivered. "It's knows were here" he whispered, his eyes more hazy. I peeked from a hole in my hiding spot and my eyes widen as I saw the Scorpius rex hand climbed a tree and was behind Darius. I didn't scream, I didn't want to agitate it such as when Aleem screamed back then. It hissed and Darius screamed turning around, everyone else screamed. It jumped into the camp and everyone spread as it roared. I saw Ben and Yasmina fall off the tree house. It slashed at boxes hitting Kenji causing him to also fall off.

In a burst of lighting a tree caught on fire and the Scorpius Rex stopped and stared at it. I covered my mouth as Darius, Brooklyn and Sammy escaped down the slide. I stayed in my spot and also covered Aleem's mouth. The fire... it must have something that distracts it from it's target. That sounds familiar, think Y/n think, what's that called again? I watched as everyone ran but Sammy was near it's tail. I wanted to scream, but it was too late she got whacked and fell to the ground. No, no, no, this can't be happening, now two have been hit. It was close to Darius, Kenji, Ben and Brooklyn as a distant dinosaur is heard and it stops. It jumps over the fence and runs away.

Everyone sighed in relief, I got out of the spot and brought Aleem out. I slid down the slide with him and made him sit down in a dry spot. I before I walked up to Sammy, the others already saw what I feared. Three quill-like structures were embedded into her side. "Whoa... I, I didn't even notice them. I'm fine, though" Sammy said trying to calm herself and the others down. But it was a lie as she fell onto the ground, unconscious. Everyone screamed her name, "Sammy!"
