'Torn Apart'

The first time we met, I never thought we'd meet again,
Casual talk, a little haze, my mind still sane,
The second time faded, I forgot what I said,
Maybe something about the future ahead.

But the third time lingers, burning bright,
The way you said my name felt kind and just right,
You tried to help in every way you can,
Even it was past your work time, you’d lend a hand.

I came over to your office again and again,
Your co-workers teased you now and then,
You’d grin so wide, a blush I could see,
That is the sight that will burn with me.

Then my last days started counting down,
Soon we'd part, I'll leave this tiny town,
You tried to shoot your shot, stood like a man,
I hesitated, didn't even catch your hand.

I said I hated commitment, my fear in disguise,
Then I saw the dimming light in your eyes,
The ones that once shone bright at me,
Like I was a prize you hoped I’d be.

The constellations written across your face,
Now mark regrets I can’t erase.
I wake at night in drenched cold sweat,
Drown in thoughts I can’t forget.

If one day you meet me again and say "I love you,"
I’d say it back without a clue.
Maybe I’m hoping you’ll wait for me,
Though I was too scared to even say plea.

I’m starting to forget your face, and your voice,
Left in doubt without a choice.
I wanted to have a start, but my fear was loud,
Too weak to say it clear and proud.

Your accent sounded like no others,
Ringing in my ears, it only gets louder,
Your soft gaze and your grin from ear to ear,
Will burn in my mind, whether I'm drunk or mainly sober.

When I thought I'll be free from you,
But you stays like a smoke after cigarettes on my sweater that's brand new,
I'd go back to January again if I had the chance,
I'll take you for this one last dance.

Your feelings I could not reply to,
Now I’m afraid to even say "Hi" to you.
It was all drafted, never sent,
From strangers to friends to nothing again.
