THIRD PERSON POV

"Mara!"

A familiar voice echoed through the hallway just as Alexandra Mara Madrigal stepped inside the engineering building.

She looked up from the notebook tucked against her chest and found Jhoanna making her way toward her with a grin.

"Oh?" Mara responded, tilting her head slightly.

"Ang aga mo ngayon, ah," Jhoanna teased, ruffling her neatly combed hair.

Mara let out a small sigh, fixing the strands that had fallen over her face.

"Maaga naman talaga 'yan si Mara," Aiah chimed in as she approached, shaking her head in amusement. "Ikaw lang talaga ang laging late."

"Excuse me," Jhoanna scoffed dramatically. "I'm fashionably late."

Aiah raised an eyebrow.

"Late is late."

Jhoanna clutched her chest as if deeply wounded. "Grabe ka naman."

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Mara's lips as she watched the two bicker. It was a familiar scene—one she had grown used to every morning.

Unlike most students who rushed in just before classes began, Mara always arrived early. It gave her enough time to review her notes, organize her schedule, and enjoy the few quiet moments before the campus came alive.

It had become a habit.

Or perhaps... a necessity.

"Speaking of..." Jhoanna suddenly snapped her fingers. "Today's release of report cards!"

The words made Mara's breath hitch ever so slightly.

"...Right."

The smile on her face remained, but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

Aiah noticed the subtle shift, though she chose not to point it out.

"Yeah, we know, Jho." She rolled her eyes playfully. "Anyway, where are the others?"

Jhoanna shrugged. "Probably nasa kani-kanilang buildings na. Ang lalayo ba naman ng courses natin." She adjusted the strap of her backpack before flashing them a grin. "Sige, mauuna na ako! Baka ma-late pa 'ko."

"Civil Engineering pa naman," Aiah teased.

"Exactly!"

With one last wave, Jhoanna hurried off toward the College of Engineering building.

Silence settled between Mara and Aiah.

The two had been classmates since first year, both taking Geodetic Engineering. Spending countless hours together in lectures, laboratories, and fieldwork had naturally made them close.
