THIRD PERSON POV

Jennifer Klaris Reyes stood frozen at the cashier, eyes widening at the sight of the word declined flashing on the machine. The cashier looked at her apologetically, whispering, "Sorry po, Ma'am. Declined po ulit."

Jennifer let out a sharp sigh, her manicured nails drumming against the counter. Declined? How could that be? She had never once experienced this kind of embarrassment in public.

Pulling out her phone with a huff, she dialed her mother.

"Mom?" Jennifer hissed under her breath, covering the receiver as people in line behind her began whispering.

On the other end, Larissa Reyes's voice was calm but firm.

"Anak, hindi kami nagtatae ng pera at hindi rin kami nagtatatae ng pera. You should know how to save."

Jennifer's jaw dropped. "Wait—did you—are you telling me you cut me off?"

"Yes," Larissa replied bluntly. "Grounded ka. You keep spending recklessly. From now on, no more cards, no more allowance. If you want money, earn it. It's time you learn discipline, Klaris."

Jennifer's lips parted, scandalized. "Grounded? I'm twenty-two, Mom! I just passed my CPA exam, for crying out loud!"

"Exactly," Larissa countered. "You're capable. And since you refuse to apply yourself, we've decided for you."

Jennifer's brows knitted. "...What do you mean decided?"

There was a pause before her mother dropped the bomb.
"You'll be working under BINIére. They're successful businesswomen and they agreed to take you in. It's the perfect place for you to learn responsibility."

Jennifer almost choked. "Them? The BINI? As in the BINI? The girl group turned entrepreneurs?"

"Yes. Report to their office on Monday. No excuses."

Click.

The call ended, leaving Jennifer stunned in the middle of the cashier line, holding shopping bags she suddenly realized she couldn't pay for.

Jennifer pulled out a fake smile for the cashier, trying to save face.

"Wait lang po, ha..." she said sweetly, though her voice cracked ever so slightly.

She turned away from the line and quickly dialed her brother's number.

"Hello, Jen?" came Jasper's voice on the other end, casual but already suspicious.

Jennifer bit her lip and lowered her tone, forcing a playful chuckle.

"Kuya? Hehe... I know this is so biglaan pero... can you pay for me? Just this once?" Her voice was dripping with forced charm, filled with hope.
