THIRD PERSON POV

Manila, 6:30 PM

Stacey stared at her phone, hands trembling. The rain tapped steadily against her window, matching the storm brewing in her chest. Her heartbeat echoed louder than the thunder outside.

She opened her messages, eyes lingering on Kat's last words.

Then, she typed—fast, desperate.

staku 😽
kat?? hindi ito mangyayari. im omw sa condo mo. sa labas ako maghihintay.

She grabbed her hoodie, slipped on her sneakers, and ran out into the downpour. No umbrella. No second thoughts. Just one name in her heart.

As Stacey sat in the backseat of the taxi, rain blurring the city lights outside, she clutched her phone tightly. Her chest was pounding, and everything felt like it was crashing in all at once.

That night, they met in a small café tucked in a corner of Makati. It used to be their usual spot. But today, Stacey could barely sit still.

Shawn arrived with a concerned look, sliding into the seat across from her. "You okay? You sounded... serious."

Stacey looked at him—really looked. Shawn had always been good to her. Kind. Steady. Safe. And maybe that was why she tried to convince herself she loved him enough.

But it was a different kind of love. A lighter kind. One that didn't keep her up at night. One that didn't feel like fire.

"I need to tell you something," Stacey said softly, her voice almost drowned by the soft hum of the rain outside.

Shawn nodded, waiting.

"I've been lying to myself. And I'm sorry," she began, eyes dropping to her fidgeting hands. " Sinubukan ko talaga mag-move on, I really did. I wanted to. You're amazing, and Hindi mo deserve 'tong gulo na 'to."

Shawn's brows furrowed slightly, lips parting like he already knew what was coming.

"It's Kat," Stacey whispered. "I never stopped... I never stopped loving her."

There it was. Out in the open. A weight released and another one replaced it instantly.

Shawn went quiet. For a moment, it felt like the world stopped around them. Then, he leaned back, letting out a deep breath. "I figured," he said, voice low. "You never looked at me the way you looked at her."

Stacey blinked, surprised. "Alam mo?"

"Napansin ko. Pero umasa ako... na baka matutunan mo rin akong mahalin," he admitted, a sad smile tugging at his lips. "Pero mas pipiliin kong mawala ka sa akin para sa taong talagang mahal mo, kaysa hawakan ka habang alam kong hindi naman ako ang puso mo."
