Stacey slumped into her bed, staring at the ceiling of their shared dorm room. It was already past midnight, and the soft hum of the air conditioner filled the silence. Beside her, Julie was asleep on her own bed, her long hair sprawled messily over her pillow. Stacey's chest tightened as she glanced at her roommate, her lips pressing into a thin line.
Focus, Stacey. Wag ka nang tumingin.
She rolled over, burying her face in her pillow. But her thoughts betrayed her. The way Julie laughed at her stupid jokes, the little snacks she brought home to share, and the effortless way she cared for others—Julie had unknowingly taken over Stacey's heart.
It started months ago.
"Uy, Stacey! May extra akong milk tea. Gusto mo?" Julie asked one evening, holding out a cup with a bright smile.
"Ha? Ah, sige," Stacey stammered, trying to play it cool. "Thanks."
It was a simple gesture, but it struck something in Stacey. Slowly, she began noticing everything about Julie—the way she absentmindedly hummed while studying, the way she cheered Stacey on during late-night study marathons, and the way she'd always save Stacey's favorite cookies from their stash.
