Chapter 49

"Pass me that blue balloon over there," Kai says, as he attaches another streamer to the outdoor gazebo. Lloyd tosses him one without looking up from where he was blowing up more balloons. "Thanks."

It was the day of Jay's birthday party, and his main friends showed up early to help with the finishing touches just like how they had for Lloyd's and Kai's a few months prior. Everything was pretty much done except for the decorations.

"I forgot to ask, how was your date with Harumi last Saturday?" Kai asked, stepping back from the post to inspect his work. Lloyd looked up too, his eyebrows scrunching in consideration.

"Switch that blue for a lighter one." He said, handing Kai a different color balloon. Kai nodded, stepping back onto the ladder. "It was okay, I guess- nothing special."

"Wow. That's a whole lot of information you dumped on me just there." Kai said sarcastically, shooting a glance down at Lloyd, who rolled his eyes in return. "Give me some details. It's been a while since your last date–which was... oh right, this was your first."

"Okay okay fine, you want some details?" Lloyd asked. Kai nodded enthusiastically. "Ugh, you remind me of some teenage Gossip Girl."

"Well, this teenage gossip man wants to know the details, so spill." Kai countered, stepping back from the ladder once more. "Oh yeah, this is good."

"We went to the movies. Mom let me use my car to pick up Harumi at 7 after a lot of convincing from my Dad, who said that her driving me and my date to our date would totally make me lose all my aura.'" Lloyd and Kai cringed at the last part.

"Ew, he did not say that last part," Kai shuddered, thinking of the mayor saying such Gen Z language.

"Oh yes, he did," Lloyd confirmed, tying up another balloon. Kai moved onto the other pillar of the gazebo, taking his later with him. "We were dressed casual, but like date casual, I guess. She had an emerald green sweater on and a white skirt while I wore a green leather jacket and black jeans."

"See that's what I'm talking about, details," Kai applauded Lloyd, who shot him a glare. "Carry on,"

"I honestly wasn't paying much attention to the movie; it was some Rom-com she wanted to see. It was called something like a huge Greek wedding or something."

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding?" Kai corrected. Lloyd nodded.

"Yeah, I wasn't really following the plot, but Harumi seemed to be enjoying it." Lloyd shrugged, handing another balloon to Kai. "After the movie we went out for dinner at this Italian place."

"Why Italian?" Kai questioned, taping down the streamers.

"Because we met in Italian class, so I thought it was like a reminder or something," Lloyd said, feeling heat rise to his cheeks.

"Aww, little Lloydie wanted to be romantic how cute." Kai cooed, only for a roll of tape to hit him at his side.

"Shut up," Lloyd muttered. "Anyways, we were there for like an hour talking about school and other things."

"Details, Lloyd," Kai instructed without turning away from where he was tying the balloons up. "Give me a darker blue balloon."

"Well, at first we were talking about our classes and which teachers we liked and disliked. Then, I asked her about her original school and turns out she's been homeschooled since she was seven." Lloyd explained. Kai raised his eyebrows.

"Homeschooled? Seriously? Why join high school during junior year then and not finish homeschooling? I heard it was much faster anyway." Kai questioned. He had his suspicions about Harumi's sort of strange behavior with the way she observed everything around her, but he had assumed she was just trying to fit into a different school. He had no idea she hadn't been to school at all–well, public school.

"I asked her that, and she said it was because she was finally ready to experience public school again. The last time she went to school apparently was when her birth parents were still alive." Lloyd answered. Kai turned his head to face Lloyd, shock all over his face.

"She's adopted?" Lloyd nodded. Kai shook his head. "So was this a date or just an info-dumping session? She must trust you a lot to keep all that information to yourself. And your closest friends, of course."

Lloyd shrugged, "Whatever it was, I'd like to do it again. No wonder you dated so many girls; this stuff is actually pretty fun."

Kai pretended to wipe a tear from his cheek, "Wow, my little Lloydie all grown up, taking after his big bro."

Lloyd rolled his eyes. "We aren't even related."

"I've known you since you were born; we are related–just not by blood," Kai argued, stepping down from the ladder. "Any else happen on this date of yours?"

Lloyd groaned as if something horrible just crossed his memory–which something horrible did just cross his memory. "You'll never believe who we saw as we were walking back to my car."

"Who? Harumi's ex-boyfriend?" Kai asked, searching for some drama. Lloyd shook his head.

"No, Tasha," Lloyd groaned again, and Kai laughed at the mention of her name. Tasha was obsessed with Lloyd. Honestly, obsessed was generous; she's the one who started the Lloyd fan club in the first place.

"Oh my FSM, what did she say when she saw you too?" Kai asked, still laughing as he moved the ladder to the final post.

"That's the thing, she didn't say anything, just stared at us as I was holding my car door open for Harumi to enter. It was so awkward." Lloyd covered his face with his hands. Kai laughed even louder. "And worse part was that her mother was there too and literally asked if I was on a date with my girlfriend right in front of Tasha, and I could've sworn I saw tears in her eyes."

Kai himself had tears in his eyes as he listened to his best friend's predicament. "Oh my FSM. Stop! I can't take anymore."

"And like Harumi had this smirk on her face as she nodded and said yes and I was just standing there, looking between the two like some idiot–" Lloyd's face was red by now, a huge contrast to the blue balloons surrounding him, " –and then Tasha grabbed her mother's arm and then like sped away. And then Harumi laughed like it was some joke, and then I started laughing because I didn't know how else to react because I kinda felt bad but at the same time–"

"Lloyd!" Kai shouted, stopping Lloyd before he started hyperventilating. The boy got worked up over small things way too often. "It's okay. It's not your fault."

Kai stepped down, crouching in front of Lloyd and putting his arms on his friend's shoulders, breathing deeply as he did so. Lloyd copied him, letting his hands fall away from his face. "Thanks," he muttered; his face finally turning back to its normal tannish color.

"No problem," Kai said, taking a seat on the ground next to Lloyd. "You know the strangest thing is that Harumi said you guys were official. Are you?"

"No, we're not; we literally had one date. After we got in the car, I asked her about it, and she said it was just some joke that girls do sometimes to other girls or something. I didn't want to push it so I just let it go." Lloyd shrugged. "Anyways, enough about my date. The decorations look great."

The two of them looked up at the beautifully decorated Gazebo with the birthday banner saying "HAPPY SUPER SIXTEEN" on it. They both smiled, forgetting about Lloyd's little freakout.

"Cole, no, you cannot try the cake yet," They hear Zane say from across the backyard. The two of them laugh at their friend's antics. Knowing Cole, he wouldn't stop asking.

Omg i acc wrote over 1k words for once. wild. anyways this part is gonna be like 4 chapters, maybe around 5k words in total, idk we'll see. 

So yeah I decided not to write llorumi date in the way y'all expected, cuz that wasn't in my org plans, so yall gonna be stuck with Lloyd's poor recount of the details. Thank FSM, Kai asked him for some or else, this chapter would just have been Lloyd saying the date was fine lol. 

so we got our partly dose of llorumi, so i finna move on to the other ships in the rest of the parts. Not pixane sadly. i srsly do not care about them at all 😢. ye shame.
