Chapter 21:
Deirdre woke up the next morning and saw a bouquet of bluish purple orchids with white roses mixed in. Orchids were her favorite flower. She loved how beautiful they were. And roses would always smell divine to Deirdre. She picked them up and sniffed them somewhat suspiciously. As she sniffed the flowers a note fell onto the bed.
Loki's script appeared on the page:
My love,
These flowers are enchanted to bloom forever more, so long as I am alive at least. I also promised you a gift yestereve. After lunch I shall take you to see your gift. I know it cannot make up for everything that has happened but I do hope that you enjoy it. I also left a salve in the restroom for your bruising and the healer shall stop by sometime after breakfast. Now that you are eating for two I expect you to eat three full meals a day.
~Loki.
Deirdre let out an exasperated sigh. The man clearly wanted forgiveness for kidnapping and raping her but his actions were unforgivable. How could she live with herself if she forgave him.
Deirdre went to the bathroom to rub this salve on her skin. She decided to take a shower first. Some bruises had scabbed over after bleeding, she never even noticed. A large portion of her body was completely black and blue. She dried off and rubbed the salve into her skin. Once she got to the last bruise she already noticed a huge improvement on the first bruise.
Deirdre put on a simple blue dress. It was the one of the only items that wasn't green or black. It did have an ornate gold trim but it was simple and comfortable. She also donned a grey robe type thing. She noticed that none of the high heeled shoes were in her closet that had been there a few days ago. She hated high heels so this was fine with her. She slid on a pair of comfortable grey flats.
Her maid Verdandi delivered her breakfast. She had orange juice rather than svartlecider. She had sausage and pancakes. It was so tasty. She let out a delighted sigh as she ate. She asked Verdandi to stay with her. She didn't like being alone.
Verdandi sat at the little table with her. "The other day you told me that I wouldn't succeed in my plan. Which plan were you talking about? And how do you know?"
"I cannot tell you too much, milady. Loki has forbidden me. But I can tell you two things. Everything you need to know about me is in that book on your desk. Just remember the word Norn," Verdandi had a nervous look in her eyes. She kept glancing at the door. "If asked, I didn't tell you. I cannot lose this position. If you need another ladies maid I'll get sent over to Tyr. He's... well he's quite well known for going through maids faster than anyone else in the castle. The other six princes have all since left for their realms but Tyr refuses to go to the realm he was told to look after and instead prefers to stay in the castle."
"I promise that no words will escape these lips if you help me. I can't stay here Verdandi. Loki is so violent with me." She savored the taste of her food as she knew there was no guarantee that she'd get something this delicious at lunch.
"I've known Loki for a long time. It is because of him that I am a novice healer. Few ever get the chance to become healers and he made sure it happened for me because he saw my potential. Since he's taken over Asgard we've achieved an economic upturn. He's a brilliant King. I tend to know things, my queen, things that haven't happened yet but will happen soon. And I must tell you there is nothing I can do to help. I must take my leave now or I will be caught. I'm sorry." Verdandi hastened out of the room.
Deirdre hobbled over to her desk. She was still a bit weak from her beating the previous evening. She flipped through her book seeking Verdandi's name in the index. She flipped to a page with a title the Norns of Asgard.
