Chapter 32
Deirdre's eys fluttered open. Where was she? Her hands were grasped around the wilting orchids and her phone was ringing. She answered it.
"Deirdre?! Where are you!" shouted Natasha.
"Uh...I don't know." She looked around. She was on the ground...in a corn field. "I'm in a field. I don't know what's going on!"
Deirdre curled into a ball and cried. Her life was falling apart. Everything was a mess.
"I'll have Shield track you, Deirdre. It's going to be okay."
"No! It's not! They're dying because of me!" she shouted into the phone.
"I'm going to track your phone, we'll find you."
"It's too late! I've killed them all."
Deirdre hung up the phone and threw it to the ground. She wiped the tears from her eyes and stood up. She knew what she had to do.
She took a deep breath and opened her arms. She closed her eyes and thought of Loki. The man was a monster. And maybe she was too because all she wanted was to see him.
She could save them. That's why there was a prophecy about her. Right? She was going to do this. She was going to end Ragnarok.
Her phone started ringing. She looked down at the ground it was Steve. She quickly answered the phone.
"Deirdre? Are you okay?" asked Steve.
"I'm fine. I know what I need to do."
"What do you mean?"
"They're dying Steve. I'm not going to let innocent people die because of me." She ended the call. Her phone immediately started ringing again. She threw it across the field. It smashed. She picked up the wilting orchids and pulled them to her chest.
Deirdre closed her eyes and thought of Loki.
Loki's voice called to her. "Don't be afraid, my love. We'll be together again."
Maybe she was Loki's obsession but the longer she was on earth, the more she realized he was her obsession. She needed to see him one more time...if only to say her final peace.
A warmth took over her body. She felt weigthless, like she was being drawn towards the heat of the sun. Even with her eyes closed she knew she'd made a connection. She was going to get the Asgardians to Earth.
Deirdre's eyes shot open. She was floating above a bright white portal. She took a deep breath. I'm going to see Loki. Something dark and grey, like a flying battle ship started blocking out the sun and the portal snapped shut. Deirdre fell to the ground.
"Wait! No!" she landed with a thud next to the discarded cell phone. It was ringing. She rubbed her baby bump. Would a fall from that height hurt the baby? She had only been a few feet off the ground. The ringing phone was distracting her. She answered it.
"Deirdre?! Are you okay?" shouted Steve.
"I...What's going on? I was...Never mind."
"We're coming to get you."
A door opened on the flying battle ship and Iron-Man came flying down. He landed in front of her.
Tony Stark flipped open his mask. "Deirdre? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"I'm taking you to Shield. We have to figure out what's going on."
"No! I'm not going anywhere. I have to save them. I'm the only one who can!"
