Chapter 16:

Deirdre awoke the next morning. The canopy around the bed was open and Loki was nowhere in sight. She breathed a sigh of relief. She got up and went to the rest room. After taking care of herself she looked around the room.

Loki had left no note for her. She went to that large double doors and lightly pressed the back of her hand to the handle. It was scalding hot. A small burn appeared. She wasn't sure why she did that. She let out a sigh. Deirdre padded into the bathroom and shut the door locking in behind her. She knew that she had to convince Loki she was in love with him if she ever wanted to escape.

She looked at herself in the mirror. She was a mess. Her hair was tangled and greasy. Her awful green collar was still around her neck. She tried to work at it to remove it from her neck. But it wouldn't come off. It seemed fused to her skin. She picked up a golden handled hairbrush and began working at the knots in her hair. After she got her hair untangled she realized she could use a long shower.

Deirdre went over to the shower and turned on the water as hot as it would go. She removed her nightgown. As she looked her body over in the mirror she saw the lashes from their wedding night. Although the maid had healed her afterwards her back was still heavily scarred. Chances were that the scars would never fully fade. She saw various scratch marks from his hands on her back and buttocks. She hated seeing her body like that. She'd had enough scars before Loki had taken her.

Convincing Loki that she was falling for him would be one of the most impossible things that she had ever done. She slowly stepped into the scalding water. It felt good against her skin. She scrubbed her skin and washed her hair. She was trying to wash Loki off herself. It was a way for her to make herself start fresh.

How could she possibly convince the God of Mischief and Lies that she was in love with him? She had never even been in love. The best example she had of a loving relationship, the only example, was that of her parents who had been married for 28 years. But she was different from her family. She doubted she could ever have the type of relationship they had even if she did fall in love.

Deirdre had no desire to have children and Loki wanted some, nine of them from what he was saying. She had nothing in common with Loki as he was from another world.

Loki had done her a kindness by letting her spend a day with her family and he'd taken care of them. Their debts were paid off. She was certain that this was thanks to him. She was appreciative of all of this and maybe she could use that appreciation to fake a love for this man. But he would probably see right through it.

She had been standing in that shower for who knows how long. She felt hands wrap around her body and she jumped turning quickly to see Loki smiling at her.

He leaned down and kissed her roughly on the lips. As he pulled away he said to her, "How are you my love?"

Deirdre looked down at the floor of the shower and averted her eyes from Loki. She covered her breasts with her arms. "I'm okay," she said.

"Why are you covering your perfect body from me?" asked Loki sternly.

She looked up at him and her ocean colored eyes locked onto his piercing green ones. His eyes seemed to be boring a hole straight into her soul. "Because I am not perfect. I'm hideous." She dipped her head back down so that she didn't have to look into those eyes.

Loki firmly grabbed her chin and pulled her head up. He lowered himself down to his level. "Don't ever say something like that about yourself again. I've told you that before. You are not hideous. You are the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes upon." Loki pressed a kiss to her lips.
