Chapter 22:
After lunch Deirdre sat at the desk. She read less than a page of her book before the door opened and Loki entered the room.
"Hello my love, did you enjoy your flowers?" he asked, sincerity lacing his voice.
She nodded. "Yes, they're nice. Orchids are my favorite flower. But I'm sure you knew that already. So...um...you said you had a surprise for me." She stood, brushing her skirt flat as she did. Worry was etched into her feautres.
"Yes, I do. You look divine today love." He bent down to kiss her and she flinched, her eyes shut. "What's wrong love?"
She looked up at him shyly. "Nothing, sorry." She hung her head to avoid eye contact.
"You flinched, please love, tell me what's wrong." Loki stroked her hair out of her eyes. It was merely hanging down in its natural wavy state and it looked amazing like that, no fancy updo. He pushed her chin gently upwards to meet his gazy.
"Please tell me what is wrong love?" He pressed his lips to her forehead.
"I'm scared of you," she said flinching afraid he would slap her or beat her or something.
"I'm sorry love. I royally messed up and I will make it up to you. Please, please forgive me." He bent down to her height and placed a sweet gentle kiss on her swollen lips. "I'm sorry," he whispered again. "I never meant to hurt you my love."
Deirdre looked into his eyes and for the first time she didn't see mischief or lies. She saw a man who meant to atone for his mistakes...a man who meant everything he said.
For the first time Deirdre trusted him. She leaned in as he bent down to kiss her again. Her palms rested flat against his armoured chest. As he pulled his head up she looked up at him and realized that for the first time she thoroughly enjoyed a kiss with her "husband."
Loki held out his arm for her and she linked arms with him. They walked through the gilded halls and she wondered where he was taking her. They left the palace and she looked around in amazement.
A gilded open carriage waited before them and Loki helped her into it. He whispered something to the carriage driver...operator...the guy who controlled the horses...and then joined her. For a brief moment she thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to run but the problem was that as long as Loki was still alive he'd catch her.
He was a King with magic powers and teleportation and powerful muscles and cheek bones that looked like they could cut glass...wait what? Where had that thought come from. What did she care about Loki's cheekbones. She was also not fast and had little tiny midget legs. She may have been 5'5, but her legs were insanely short, all her height was in her torso.
Speaking of her midget legs they didn't even reach the floor of the carriage. They dangled. She tended to sit on one of her legs in an attempt to prevent herself from fidgeting. Loki wrapped his powerful arm around Deirdre. He had no problem reaching the floor of the carriage with his legs. Though oddly while sitting she was the same height as him. She giggle at the ridiculousness of her mind.
"What's so funny?" he asked. "Did I do something mischievous and not even notice?"
"No. I was just thinking about something stupid. I thought it was weird that my legs can't even reach the floor but while we are sitting we're the same height. I know, it's stupid, but I found it funny. So where are we going?" She looked around wanting not to miss any of the sights. She couldn't lie, Asgard was a very beautiful place.
They passed by beautiful gardens with the most glorious flowers she'd ever seen. The buildings were magnificent. They had this old style charm with an amazing air of technological superiority. Their complex aircrafts flew through the sky but many moved around in with the simple means of a horse. It was a strange place.
