Chapter 42:

Steve and Natasha executed their plan flawlessly. Steve abandoned his plane and met up with Natasha.

"Have you contacted any of the others?" asked Steve

"I got a hold of a few of my contacts in New York. Most of The gifted there are used to keeping a low profile."

"What about Tony?"

"I couldn't get a hold of him, but Pepper said he was on a business trip."

"Until we make contact assume him compromised," said Steve.

"Wanda and Strange were most definitely compromised. I think they have been since the moment Loki came through that portal."

"Where are they now, maybe we can track them."

"Vision is on that. He can't exactly be compromised."

"Did you tell him what was going on?"

"No. But I'm sure he'll figure it out when he finds Wanda."

"What about Clint?"

"He's safe. He was with his family. He's rounding up gifted to help take back Shield."

"Good." Steve and Natasha sat in silence. "Nat, do you think she's still alive?"

"I hope so. She didn't ask to get involved in this."

"We were supposed to protect her. I was supposed to protect her. And now she's been taken by him again."

"She made the choice to see him."

"And I should have insisted on going in there with her."

"Shield was probably already compromised. If you tried to fight him I'm sure half of Shield would have been on you in a second."

"Not like I haven't experienced that before," said Steve.

"But they weren't possessed by an angry god last time."

"An angry God who I likely only defeated because he wanted to be captured."

"Bruce and Tony are the only ones who stood a chance."

"This time I'm going to win."

About an hour passed before they touched down some four miles outside the Asgardian refugee camp. They pushed their plane into a cave.

"Do you think Loki is in there?" asked Natasha.

"No. But they'll get us to him. We've got a long walk ahead of us."

"I'm going to untie you, love. You promise me you're not going to fight me?" asked Loki.

"I promise." She was heavily pregnant and incredibly weak. There was no way she could fight him in that moment, and she wanted nothing more than to fight him.

Loki untied her and pulled her up. "Let's get you cleaned up, love. We have to impress the Asgardians."

Deirdre tried to stand. In the last three months she had been tied to the bed for 23 hours a day. Despite being pregnant she'd lost weight.

Deirdre fell back onto the bed and Loki scooped her up. "It's okay, love. I'll take care of you."

She looked at him in disgust. She hated being reliant on him for everything.

Loki placed her in the bathtub and dumped buckets of water in. He scrubbed her pale skin.

"I hate keeping you like this, love. I want you by my side. Why can't you just let me love you?"
