Chapter 9:
Deirdre remained silent the rest of the way to the palace. She was grateful that Loki let her say goodbye, but she now realized that her fate was sealed. She would marry Loki and she would be his Queen and probably his punching bag for the remainder of her life.
She looked out at her gilded prison, crying silently. Loki stroked her hair gently the whole ride home, like she was a dog that he was rewarding. When the carriage arrived at the palace he helped her out and they went back to their chambers.
Loki sat Deirdre on the bed. "Love, I have some business to attend to. I will be back in time for dinner with you. I'm having a servant bring you a light snack in the mean time. I suggest you take a look at my private library. It's quite large so I've left you some notes around the library with suggestions of books to read. Do you have anything you'd like to say to me before I go?"
"Thank you again, master, for letting me say goodbye to my parents. It meant the world to me. Also, is there anything you can do to make walking easier for me, as I am still in quite a lot of pain."
"You're welcome, love. I know it was hard for you to say goodbye to them. But you will be better off here with me." Loki then waved his hands and the pain in Deirdre's limbs and back lessened. "Is that better?" asked Loki.
"Yes, master, thank you."
"I'll see you in a few hours." Loki leaned down and kissed her on the forehead and left without another word.
Once he was gone Deirdre collapsed on the bed letting out all the tears she'd been holding back. She wasn't sure how long she cried before she sat up. She went to her dresser and picked out a modest nightgown. It went to her knees and didn't reveal too much of her chest. Like everything else it was green. She found a black silk robe to wear over top of it and a pair of black slippers with gold embroidery.
She slipped into the bathroom with this clothing and changed. She left her bra and panties on. She figured that if Loki wanted her back in dress clothing he'd tell her so when he got back, but at this point she just wanted to be comfortable.
As she walked out of the bathroom she saw Baby lying on the floor. She picked up her teddy bear from where it had fallen early this morning. She sat him back on the bed. She checked the doors to Loki's chamber and she couldn't escape. So she headed towards the library. At least if she was going to be stuck in this room she could enjoy a few good books.
She entered Loki's vast library. There were three floors of books. Ladders were necessary for her to reach anything on the top few shelves and grand staircases led her up to the next floor. As she walked through the library she found different notes recommending books to her.
Loki suggested several Shakespearian books, which made her happy even though she'd never been much of a fan of Shakespeare. He suggested a few Asgardian children's books to teach her about the history of Asgard. He recommended books on Norse Mythology. This was all just on the first level of books. She took three books and brought them back to the bed.
Deirdre noticed food sitting on her nightstand. A bowl of colorful fruits and a bowl of yogurt sat by her bed, along with a glass of orange juice. The servant must have been by while she was in the library. She ate her fruit dipping it in the yogurt. She snuggled up with her teddy bear and read one of the books she had chosen. This one was a book about Norse Mythology. From here she learned about Loki, his brother Thor, and their father, Odin.
