Chapter 29:
Deirdre awoke in a stark white hospital room with a heart monitor and IV attached to her. She looked around the room and sat up. Her orchids and teddy bear sat on a side table providing the only splash of color to the room.
A doctor and nurse walked in followed by Steve Rogers and an agent from Shield.
The doctor and nurse began checking vital signs while the shield agent and Steve Rogers sat down. The shield agent extended her hand. "Miss Kelly, I'm agent Maria Hill with Shield." Deirdre shook hands with her. "Shield is a government agency that deals with gifted individuals like Captain Rogers here and alien creatures like Thor and Loki."
The doctors finished their examination and left the room.
Maris asked, "What can you tell us about Loki?"
"What do you want to know?" asked Deirdre.
Steve replied, "Does he have any weaknesses? Or anything that may help us take him down."
"If he has any weaknesses I didn't really discover them. In the time I was there I barely left the room he kept me in and I talked to one other person besides him...that maid who freed me."
"What happened while you were there?" asked Maria. Deirdre looked over at Steve and got nervous. She looked away from him.
"I'm not really comfortable talking about this. I just want to go home and forget about it."
Steve touched her hand and she looked at him, "Please, we want to help you and the best way to do that is to tell us what happened." He gripped her hand and gave her a comforting squeeze. Deirdre took a deep breath.
"He...forced me to marry him. He beat me...a lot...and I'm pregnant," said Deirdre. "He tried to teach me magic."
Maria and Steve shared a look. Maria wrote down some notes. Steve squeezed Deirdre's hand again and said, "Can you tell us more about the magic he tried to teach you?"
"All I can really do is stop time and teleport myself and I can make books move around a bit. I'm not sure I can do it here though. Loki told me that I could do magic because I'm not really human."
Maria looked down at her notes, "That's not true, Miss Kelly. You are certainly human. We compared your DNA to the known non-human races."
"But...I'm confused. How can I do magic if I'm human? And Loki said the Asgardians recorded my birth. Why would they do that if I'm just a human?
"We're not sure. There are a few humans who can perform magic though. And according to Thor your birth was recorded by the Asgardians due to a prophecy that said you'd bring the end of the world," said Maria.
"Ragnarok. Because of me people are dying. Not all the Asgardians were bad and they're dying because of me."
Steve stroked my hand, "It's not because of you, Deirdre. It's because of Loki. None of this is your fault."
Deirdre smiled at Steve and he smiled back.
"Miss Kelly," said Maria, "We have to talk about your pregnancy."
"What about it?"
"Your child is half Jotun, like Loki, and half human. Shield wants you to keep the child. This child could be very useful in the future."
"I don't want this child. I can't raise it." Deirdre started crying. "What if it's a monster like its father."
Steve tried to calm Deirdre down. Maria said, "We're not asking you to raise the child if you don't want to. We can gladly adopt it out to someone who can handle the responsibilities of a gifted child. And if you did want to raise the child we would provide you all the care you needed."
