Chapter 27
Over the next few weeks Loki spent every free moment helping Deirdre learn how to control her powers. She was actually getting pretty good. She could use her powers to improve the taste of her food successfully, that way Verdandi needn't do so. Ever since Verdandi took her to the Norns she hadn't wanted to speak with her.
She also mastered teleportation and summoning which was great. Every time she teleported herself somewhere she had this odd moment of satisfaction. She couldn't go very far but it didn't matter.
Sometimes, during her lessons Deirdre would tell Loki about her fascination with magic. She told him all about Harry Potter and sometimes he would let her read it to him. She told him that he was a stone cold Slytherin. He was more convinced he was a Ravenclaw. It resulted in a very silly argument over whether Loki valued ambition or intelligence more.
Deirdre found she was very skilled at stopping time. It was her accidental specialty. She frequently stopped time by accident, but now, now she could do it with so much control that even Loki was subject to the effects, most of the time at least.
Her belly was starting to get bigger. It scared her so much to know she was carrying a life. Deirdre never wanted any of this, but unless she got lucky, this was the life she would be forced to have. What hurt so much for her about this whole situation was that she had no choice.
Deirdre woke up one unassuming morning to Loki spooning her and fondling her lady bits. She let out a whimper. "Please, don't."
"But, love. It's your birthday. I want to give you something amazing."
"What!" she cried.
Five months...That's how long she had been here. She hadn't even realized it. Somehow it felt so much longer. Deirdre tried to pull away, but Loki's grip was like iron.
Despite her months of captivity she hadn't gotten used to the constant assault. She fought Loki every time. But eventually...eventually she gave in to his desires. It was the only way to prevent his rage. She may not have wanted this child, but she couldn't let Loki beat her while she was pregnant.
Even with her newfound powers she was unable to stop his assaults. The man was insatiable. It was like her powers stopped working the second Loki tried to be intimate with her.
Deirdre had given up hope. She was stuck with Loki. And she was afraid...afraid that she was okay with it...afraid that she wanted to stay with him. It had been weeks since she'd checked on her family.
Loki had told her so much about himself. She found out how he was kidnapped as a baby. The more he told her about his past the more she felt the need to give him a hug. He had been abused. It wasn't surprising he was abusive towards her. How could he express love, which he never felt?
Some days she felt so much sympathy for Loki. Her rational side told her that this was a result of his abuse and even Stockholm syndrome. But another part of her...a darker side told her that this was what she always dreamed of.
That day...Deirdre's 23rd birthday...she did the unexpected...Deirdre stopped fighting and turned to Loki. She kissed him with a fervor and passion she was unaware she possessed. Deirdre threw off her nightgown and for the first time Deirdre willingly made love to her husband.
