Chapter 24:

Deirdre looked like a wide eyed deer caught in the headlights. How should she answer that question? Loki was stroking her palm and waiting expectantly for an answer. His council was waiting for an answer. Deirdre just wished that she could run out of that room and keep running, but that wasn't going to work.

She took a deep breathe, closed her eyes for a moment and counted to 10 hoping to calm herself enough to convincingly lie. She opened her eyes and Loki was looking around the room quizzically. He was still stroking her palm. She suddenly realized that time stopped again.

Nothing in the room was moving except her and Loki.

"What did you do? What did I do?" Deirdre exclaimed.

Calmly he responded, "I didn't do this. You did. Just breathe, love."

Deirdre breathed and for a moment thought about how she would answer this question. She thought about everything she had ever read and had an idea of how to best answer it but she needed to get time back so she poked the council member next to her and everything started moving.

"We are waiting milady. Do you love King Loki?" asked Sigurd.

Deirdre took a deep breathe and rapidly said, "Well I've only just met him. Like with many great marriages this was for political reasons. But that doesn't mean I won't ever love him. Love can grow over time." She finally breathed now that she'd finished her logical explanation. But the more they didn't respond the more she felt that was the wrong answer.

Finally an older council member said, "Well put. Why even Loki's mother and father were a political marriage and with time their love was clear and I'm sure over time we will see the same from both of you. Why I hear the next heir to the throne is already on the way."

"Yes, I am with child," she mumbled. She hated thinking about it. It felt like a monster was growing in her stomach. She was feeling sick again. Wasn't it ironic that Morning Sickness could happen any time of day?

Thor, Jane, Tony, and the two SHIELD agents approached the epicenter of the crater. But there was an issue. They didn't see mjolnir. They searched every where but the Hammer of Thor was missing.

Jane and the SHIELD agents were poking probes around to help find Mjolnir but to no avail.

"JARVIS, pull up security footage of this location over the last few days. No one but Thor should be able to lift that Hammer and we need to find out where it is."

"Certainly, sir," replied JARVIS.

Tony projected the footage over the last few days at high speed onto the frozen tundra. A satellite had a decent view and they watched as a woman trekking through the tundra happened upon Thor's hammer and lifted it with ease. The woman slammed the hammer down and flew.

She smiled. The image froze on a blonde woman with a smirk across her face. She had kind features, was short and a bit on the heavier side.

"I thought you said that only you could lift the hammer?!" screamed Tony.

"The inscription says that should they be worthy that they will possess the powers of Thor. Whoever this woman is we must find her. She was clearly worthy and unless she chooses to give the hammer back to me I will lose my powers and we may never be able to save this girl."

After dinner they went back to their chamber. Loki helped a silent Deirdre remove her clothes. He took her by the hand and brought her to the bathroom. She felt dirty from saying that she may grow to love Loki. Who could ever love a monster like him. He didn't care about her, no matter what he said. He only cared about himself.
