Chapter 14:
Deirdre's head was spinning. Loki was a monster but in more ways than she knew. He was the monster that parents tell their children about at night. And he was her husband.
Deirdre let out a shriek and resumed a fierce struggle. She attempted to throw him off her. Deirdre managed to elbow him in his blood red eye and again in his royal blue nose. His skin slowly returned to its pale color and his eyes returned to their glowing emerald green.
Loki growled in anger at his bride. He pinned her hands above her head as blood flowed out of his nose. When she realized that he had her pinned in place she stopped struggling.
"What are you?" asked Deirdre.
"I am the King of Asgard and you are my Queen. That is all you need to know." Loki released her wrists and climbed off her. "You should get some sleep, love. It has been a long day for you."
Loki waved his hands and his pants, tunic and boots returned to his body. She was going to say something to him but he walked out the large wooden doors without looking back at her.
Loki went to his magic chamber. He needed some time to contemplate things. He wanted to train Deirdre to use her magic so he started thinking of the best approach to it. After what he had done to her he was certain she would never love him. But they were bound together forever. Eventually she'd have to.
Loki leafed through some of his earliest magic books and marked off pages for Deirdre to read. He knew it was impossible to make her fall in love with him through means of magic. It just didn't exist. He wished he could speak to Frigga, she always knew what to do in situations like this.
But Loki was a monster. He would always be a monster. This was a fact that he had become quite aware of. It didn't matter what he did for the girl, she would always be afraid. He wanted to perform some grand romantic gesture for her, he wanted to see her smile, and he wanted to see her look at him with something other than fear.
But he didn't know how. A few centuries ago he had been married to Lady Sigyn and although he thought he loved her at the time, he truly didn't. Shortly after forcing marriage upon her, he realized that it had been a mistake. He was stuck with her until her death. But Deirdre, she was different. He'd been watching her since her birth, and he knew everything there was to know about her.
And Loki knew for certain that he could never fall out of love with her. Loki thought back and tried to pinpoint what it was that endeared him to her so much. He'd watched her for her entire life, but if he had to pinpoint an exact moment it would be one from a decade before.
Midgard – 10 Years Earlier – 2003
A 12-year-old Deirdre walked to gym class. She was an overweight child. Despite being told that she'd never amount to anything and that she was worthless she was still so strong and she just didn't care. Deirdre was an outcast. She hated gym class but she went anyway. Loki looked down on her from Asgard.
Deirdre changed into her gym clothing. Loki blocked her from view until she was finished. She entered the gym and sat down. She saw a new girl that she'd never met. The girl was sitting there, confused and being laughed at. The girl was now crying. Deirdre walked over to the girl, a girl that Deirdre had never met. The girl must have been new.
"Hey, leave her alone. What did she ever do to you?" said Deirdre.
"Stay out of this, fatso," said a boy who was particularly rude.
