Chapter 19:

Loki strutted into the bedchamber and walked over to Deirdre. He bent down and kissed her on the forehead.

"So my love, are you ready for dinner."

Deirdre nodded without saying a word. She had promised him she'd try to love him. She promised herself she'd try to kill him. But in case she failed in her plan to kill Loki, she best hold her tongue.

Loki grabbed Deirdre's arm and they began to walk towards the door. She hardly ever left that goram bedchamber.

They walked into the foyer and Loki stopped for a moment. He pulled her chin up so she was looking into his eyes.

"My love, tonight is a very important night. My elder brother Thor has returned to Asgard. This is a delicate situation. He was supposed to ascend the throne and I may have stolen it from him and convinced him that I was deceased. My younger brother Tyr will also be joining us. Please watch your tongue this evening. Just remember I could still let death befall your family. If all goes well I have a surprise for you this evening."

Deirdre averted her eyes from Loki's. "I promise to behave myself, Loki."

"That's good." Loki kissed Deirdre's forehead and then embraced her. His head rested atop her head for a moment. He then locked arms with her again. Loki had told Deirdre about Thor. Thor was the protector of Midgard. Thor was one of the Avengers. He was one of the people who defeated Loki when he'd tried to conquer Midgard. Maybe she could beg Thor for assistance. She also recalled that Tyr was the God of War. He seemed like a man that Deirdre would not like to mess with.

Loki was right, this was a delicate situation. If he realized that she wanted him dead, if he realized that she was going to beg his brother for help she may be condemning her family or herself to an early grave.

Deirdre and Loki exited the chamber and walked through the long gilded corridors. She couldn't remember her first few days in Asgard. She was certain that she'd walked these halls but she wasn't completely certain.

Deirdre and Loki entered the banquet hall. She was sure she'd been here before. They walked down the stairs arm in arm receiving a welcoming applause.

It seemed the entirety of Asgard was in attendance that evening. Deirdre and Loki walked to the long table at the head of the banquet hall. Loki stood in front of his throne and sat Deirdre at his right side. Despite three more seats at the table no one else had yet sat at their table. He sat down and the room was filled with excited chatter.

After several minutes women in white togas and navy cloaks were bustling through the hall bringing pitchers full of mulled mead and dark ale. Deirdre was looking forward to drinking something that wasn't that overly sweet Svartlecider she'd had at lunch.

Two pitchers were placed on their table. Loki poured mead for himself. He then poured a blood red liquid into Deirdre's cup. She recognized it as Svartlecider. Why was he having mead at she was getting that. Verdandi had said it was only for important women but she couldn't figure out why anyone of importance would drink that stuff.

Suddenly the hall went completely silent. A tall, muscular blonde man entered the hall with a small brunette woman on his arm.

Deirdre recognized him as Thor, the God of Thunder. "Brother!" shouted Thor.

He and the woman walked up to the table that Loki and Deirdre were seated at. Loki stood and grabbed Deirdre's arm forcing her to stand. She had an unintentional look of surprise on her face and she was glad she had on a cloak. If she hadn't a bruise that she could feel forming on her arm would be very visible. Loki didn't always realize his strength.
