Chapter 43

Natasha followed Steve and Thor out of the building, leaving Deirdre alone.

Deirdre silently ate. The people around her were controlled by Loki. Every single person was either brainwashed or they agreed with him.

"How did you do it?" she whispered.

"Do what?"

"Control them?"

"With this." He pulled a yellow stone from his pocket. She was going to grab it. "Don't touch it. It will kill you."

"What is it?"

"This is called an infinity stone. I took it from a creature called Vision. It was unfortunate that I had to kill him to get it."

Deirdre gasped. She shouldn't be shocked by his sadistic nature. But she was.

"What's it do?"

"The infinity stones are powerful objects. I can manipulate time, space, minds...whatever I want. All with these stones."

"Then why haven't you brainwashed me. If you could have me be obedient why not?"

"I'd never do that to you, love. When you submit to me just know that it will be of your own free will."

"Then you're going to be waiting a long time. Because we both know that will never happen."

"Give it time love. I have all of it. He pulled a green stone from his pocket and flipped it in his hand."

Suddenly time stood still and flew back. Steve was being dragged off by Thor and Natasha before her eyes again.

"You're playing tricks on me."

Loki chuckled darkly. "I have powers you will never know, love. With these stones we can rule the world."

"Why? Why should we rule the world? What good will come of it?"

"The possibilities are endless, love. With me in charge your planet can prosper. I'm doing this for you."

"You're lying. All you do is lie to me, Loki. I've played your games for too long."

"When did I ever lie to you?"

"I'm not Asgardian! I'm human. Shield said so."

"How do you know they didn't lie?"

"You told me that the magic I was doing was me. It was this god awful baby!"

"That was a mistake. I thought it was you."

"You don't make mistakea. Every word you say is calculated manipulation. There's no one here for me to impress because you've already brainwashed them."

Loki's hand closed around Deirdre's throat. "Everything I do is for us! So we can be happy!"

Deirdre scratched at his hands and mumbled, "I hate you!"

Loki threw Deirdre to the floor. He started kicking her, over and over. Deirdre screamed in pain, trying to protect herself.

Suddenly a pool of water began forming between her legs and a pain worse than Loki had ever caused started flowing through her.

"Stop!" she shouted out.

Loki pulled his foot back to kick her again and she managed to get out, "I think the baby's coming."

Loki stopped. "Are you sure?"

She let out a cry of pain. She thought it might have been a contraction. Or maybe it was just residual pain from Loki kicking her. "Yes," she shrieked.
