Chapter 3:

Deirdre and Loki descended the stairs into a fantastic ballroom. Deirdre held onto the railing for dear life so she didn't fall. She tried to take in everything at once. The men and women were all dressed to impress, though she did notice that some of them were dressed more in warrior attire than formal wear.

The two were met by applause. As they hit the floor a path cleared for them to their table. Deirdre was trying to soak everything in. The one thing she noticed was that everyone here was taller than her and they were all staring at her. They walked to a long, ornate table at the front of the room that was on a platform. A throne was at the center of the table.

She wasn't prepared for a beating like the one she had taken earlier, so she would attempt to be on her best behavior. Maybe if he trusted her enough she could escape. Hopefully she could live long enough to do so.

They walked to the table and Loki stood in front of the throne, Deirdre stood in front of the seat directly to his right. She noticed everyone else was sitting and Loki released her arm, cueing her to sit as well.

He spoke to the crowd of people though Deirdre was having trouble paying attention. She caught snippets of what he was saying. He kept talking about a man named Odin and another named Thor. He spoke fondly of a woman named Frigga.

Deirdre managed to figure out that Frigga was his mother and Odin was his father. It would seem that Odin had died and Loki had disguised himself as his father in order to get the kingdom to accept him. Once they had, he revealed who he truly was.

Finally Loki sat down and servants dressed the same way as Deirdre's servant Asta brought food out. There was a lot of bizarre looking food that Deirdre had never seen and wasn't sure she wanted to try. There were also some familiar foods so she had plenty of helpings of those foods.

She hadn't eaten in a long time and she only now realized how famished she was. As she ate her eyes lit up at just how good everything was. She heard some laughter to her left and she looked over and saw Loki smiling at her. She glared at him.

"What," she asked curtly. "Is there something funny about all of this to you?"

Loki was leaning his head on his hand and said, "You're just so adorable sometimes. I find you very interesting, love."

Loki reached over to her and stroked her hair. She flinched away from him afraid he was going to hit her again. He frowned a little.

            "What's wrong, love?" asked Loki.

"I told you, I don't really like to be touched and let's see, what else. Oh that's right, you beat me senseless not that long ago so forgive me if I am a little jumpy."

"One day, love, you will crave my touch and you will beg for it. One day you will love me," smirked Loki.

"Not if you were the only man left in the entire universe," said Deirdre through gritted teeth.

Loki grabbed her head and placed his lips right next to her ear. "Watch your tongue, you wouldn't want to embarrass me, now would you? Because if you do embarrass me, believe me, I wouldn't be opposed to beating you in front of the entire kingdom. Maybe I'll just have to teach you some more respect when we get back to our chambers tonight," whispered Loki.

Deirdre's eyes widened with fear and she jerked her head away. She looked at him, trying to determine if he was telling the truth. She looked into his bright green eyes to see if she could read his thoughts. He smirked at her and his eyes told her that he was completely serious.
