Chapter 10:

Deirdre looked at Loki confused. She did that herself. There's no way that she could have made books fly across the room. Her head was swirling. She suddenly got very light headed. As Loki stroked her face some more she could feel herself falling.

Deirdre fell to the floor unconscious. Loki immediately bent down to his future queen. He tried to wake her but when she didn't awaken he began to panic. He lifted her limp body and placed her on her bed. With a snap of his fingers he left the room and appeared in the palace infirmary.

Three older women in mauve dresses stood there. The eldest woman spoke first, "My king what has brought you here?"

"It is my betrothed. She has fallen ill. I need help. Immediately!" said Loki with a sneer on his face.

With a snap of his fingers Loki and the three healers were in his chambers. The woman rushed to the bed and saw his unconscious bride. She was white as a sheet.

            "What happened?" asked the woman.

"It appears she unlocked her powers. She conjured a dozen books in anger. It would appear that only half of them were fully formed because after she realized what she had done she became fearful and half disappeared." Loki had a look of concern on his face. He removed his helmet with a blink of his eyes. He sat next to his beloved Deirdre and stroked her arm. He kissed her forehead and whispered in her ear, "Please be okay, Deirdre. You have to be okay. I never meant to hurt you." A single tear fell down Loki's cheek.

The healers created a soul forge over her. The three women went to work trying to analyze her body. "Has she ever performed sorcery before?" asked the eldest healer.

"She has never done so intentionally. Her magic mostly happened out of desperation rather than fear or anger. It also seems to happen when she's extremely happy, but even then she only seems to be able to read people. I've never seen her perform anything more advanced than simple summoning or banishing. She's never conjured anything. The entire incident was a first."

Loki never took his eyes off of Deirdre. The gold matter surrounding Deirdre was worked into different configurations trying to figure out what had happened to the girl. The light from the soul forge reflected off her milky white skin. He'd never seen his beloved this pale.

After several minutes the youngest healer said, "It doesn't look like there is any permanent damage to her system. Sorcery takes a lot of energy as you know and she has never had this much energy surge through her body at once."

The elder healer said, "We will revive her to a conscious state, but after that she should rest. Make sure she gets lots of fluids and eats a lot. She needs a few days of bed rest with only mild exercise. She should not become too stressed. After she has healed, which should be in about three days I suggest you start training her in sorcery as it will help her learn to handle that kind of energy."

Loki nodded, not taking his eyes off of Deirdre. The third healer said to him, "If her situation does not get better do summon us again, my king. And when she becomes with child we will monitor the pregnancies as it could be a very trying situation with your," the girl suddenly paused and looked around, then whispered, "Jotun blood."

For the first time Loki looked up and he glared at the healer. "If you mention that again I will have you sent to the dungeons. Just revive my princess and get out of my chambers," said Loki, his eyes narrow and his lips quivering in anger and sadness.

The three healers controlled the soul forge to wake Deirdre. After a few moments her eyes fluttered open and she looked at Loki. He was staring deep into her eyes and stroking her arm. The soul forge vanished and the three healers quickly left, not wanting to face their king's wrath.

Loki heard the door close. "Are you alright?"

"What happened?" asked Deirdre weakly. "I feel like shit."

"You passed out. But you'll be okay. You just need rest," said Loki. Her bangs were covering her eyes and Loki reached out and brushed them to the side. He looked down into her eyes, on hand still stroking her arm, the other gently stroking her hair. "You have the most beautiful eyes. I could stare into them for days." Loki leaned down and kissed her.

Deirdre remained still as this man kissed her. When he pulled his head up, he smiled at her. She said to him, "Um... this may be a weird question since you...um...just kissed me, but, who are you and where am I?"

Loki's eyes narrowed. "What is the last thing you remember?"

"I'm not really sure. I remember being at work, I think I remember leaving, but everything after that is a blur..." she said, trailing off.

"I am Loki, King of Asgard, and you, Deirdre, are my betrothed. Do you not remember?" Deirdre shook her head no and tried to sit up, but Loki gently pushed her back down.

"Rest, my love. I am going to call someone to come check on you." Loki stood up and walked out of the room.
