Chapter 11:
Deirdre lay in the bed until Loki returned. He immediately rushed to her side. The three healers walked into the room behind him. They began conjuring the soul forge.
The women didn't speak. Deirdre looked up at the gold matter hanging in the air above her. It was mesmerizing. Loki was speaking with the women but she wasn't really paying attention.
Finally the eldest healer spoke up, "Miss can you tell us what your name is?"
"My name is Deirdre Ophelia Kelly," she said.
"And where are you from?" she asked.
"I am from New Jersey. But I live in New York now."
The healer smiled at her. She summoned Loki over to her and Loki stood up and walked to the other side of the room with the healer. "We see no damage in her brain. There is no reason she shouldn't remember what has been happening since she got here unless she just doesn't want to remember. With time and gentle reminders of what happened she should be able to regain her memories. But you must have patience with her, my King. Don't overwhelm her. We will take our leave now, my king." The three women bowed out of the room.
Loki went back over to Deirdre. The door closed softly. His eyes narrowed. "Okay, love, end this charade. Now. I'm certain you remember exactly who I am. I'm certain you remember everything?"
Deirdre looked up at him with her wide eyes and said, "I'm not sure what you're talking about, what was it, Loki."
Loki grabbed her neck and roughly lifted her body up. "I will give you until the count of three to address me in the proper way or I will have to give you another lesson and I'm sure you don't want that, now do you?"
Deirdre clawed at his hand. "Please...can't...breathe," she choked out.
Loki dropped her back down. "One."
"I don't know what you are talking about. I don't remember you," said Deirdre, tears filling her eyes.
"Two," said Loki. "You best start remembering, love, because otherwise I'll have to teach you another lesson.
"What the hell is going on?" said Deirdre, bringing her hands to her face. "I don't even know who you are. You say we're engaged. I don't know where I am. I don't remember you. I don't remember anything. And you're making no sense!"
"You really don't remember, do you?" said Loki, his expression softening. Deirdre was crying hysterically and Loki reached his arms around her embracing her in a tight hug. Loki stroked her hair. "Shh, calm down, love. Everything will be okay."
Deirdre wrapped her arms around Loki's waist and rested her head on his shoulder. She didn't know who this man was, but she felt safe in his arms. She wished she could remember though because she was engaged to this man and she'd love to know what happened that caused her to fall in love with him.
After her tears subsided she pulled away from the man. "Can you tell me about my life? The last thing I remember I was leaving work and it was December of 2013. How much of my life have I forgotten?" asked Deirdre.
"Hold that thought my love. There is a lot for me to tell you and I want to make sure dinner is delivered soon." Loki pulled away from Deirdre, and she looked up at him with questioning eyes. For the first time since she arrived there wasn't a hint of fear in her gaze, just curiosity.
