I know you're going to ask "Who the Morgoth even bothers to figure this out?!"
To which I reply, "Me, obviously. And nice swearing."Also, you may want to brush up on your Silmarillion to get this properly :P
So...we begin at the beginning of the line of Thingol and Melian...
Thingol is an elf. Melian is a Maia.
Pretty straightforward.
Their only daughter, Lúthien, is exactly 1/2 Elf and 1/2 Maia.
(Which technically makes her Half-Elven too, but whatever)Lúthien marries Beren, who is a man.
Dior, their son, is therefore 1/2 Man, 1/4 Maia, and 1/4 Elf.
Dior marries Nimloth, who is an elf. Their daughter Elwing is thus 1/4 man, 1/8 Maia, and 5/8 elf.
Okay, here's where the problems start.
Elwing marries Eärendil, who is exactly 1/2 man and 1/2 elf (by way of Tuor (man) and Idril (elf))
So, their children, who we all know (Elrond and Elros) are....
9/16 elf
1/16 Maia
6/16 man(Or, apparently, 50.315% elf, almost exactly half-elven)
Then, Elrond married Celebrían, who (luckily) happens to be an elf.
Their children, Arwen Undomíel and the twins, Elladan and Elrohir, are
3/4 elf (24/32)
1/32 Maiar
7/32 manNow everything up there was positively easy compared to this.
Arwen married Aragorn. Can we talk about Aragorn, please? He is descended from Elros by way of his Dunedaín lineage. There were around 25 kings of Númenor, beginning with Elros, and although the line may not have continued on flawlessly through the crown, this is the best I can do.
So, Aragorn was
1/536,870,912 Maiar (next to this number in my notes is #help)
9/536,870,912 elf
536,870,902/536,870,912 manI won't even tell you how I did that math because it took like two hours (stop judging, I was curious)
Okay, finally, they had three children, Eldarion, their son, and two unnamed daughters.
They are....
8,388,609/536,870,912 Maia (or roughly 1.5%)
327,155,714/536,870,912 man (or roughly 60%)
201,326,596.5/536,870,912 elf (or roughly 37%)Okay, so. Deep breath.
Now, here's a few reminders--
Just because Elrond chose to be counted among the Eldar and Elros chose to be counted among the race of Men does not mean that their actual genetic makeup switched.
Also, Aragorn's lineage is not in any way exact because Tolkien does not mention exactly who each King/Queen of Númenor married. This is therefore only an indication of half of his lineage, that which comes directly though the Numenorian Kings.
So, that's that. Hope that was entertaining xD
