Ch 17: Hair

Cooking. I once considered you to be one of my best friends, but you betrayed me. You stabbed me in the back, or rather, choked me.

We are doing theory now, I don't think our teacher wants to go back to actually cooking yet. I don't think I will ever be trusted to take care of myself again. I stare down at my worksheet and read over it multiple times before grasping the words properly instead of letting it just go through my head.

I can hear everyone chatting around me about whatever thing they want, I feel a couple sets of eyes on me and assume that Griffins gossip has gotten around. I sigh just as someone next to me starts talking.

"Eva, you ducked out on us the other day" the boy from last week smiles at me, leaning over to see my face since I'm trying to focus on my work.

"I had to" I reply.

"That's a boring reason" he says, crossing his arms on the table and leaning on them.

"Well it's the truth" I say.

"Well do you wanna hang out later?" He asks "wanna go on a date? I saw you the other day with Nate at the park"

"I wasn't just with Nate" I explain.

"Still, do you wanna go on a date?" He persists and I feel like I want this to end and I do not care how.

"Jake, leave her alone" I hear someone say from a table in front of me.

The girl with the locker from earlier is looking back at us, I didn't notice she was in my class, I thought one of the other girls was.

"She doesn't want to go on a date with you, you're being a creep" she tells him and he glares at her.

I smile and mumble a thank you and focus back on my paper.

...

"Hey wait." I hear as I put my finished worksheet on the teachers desk and look over to the door where the two boys are again.

They are stopping Lilly, the quiet girl, from leaving and I feel a wave of nostalgia come over me. She seems to be trying to get past them and trying to be nice but isn't speaking up much.

I walk over as they tease her.

"What? We can't hear you? Did you want us to move? Come sit with us at lunch" they scrutinise her and I glare at the two of them.

They look at me and avert their attention for a couple seconds.

"Hey it's like two peas in a pod" one says.

"One for each of us" the guy who kept talking to me adds.

"I need to get past so move out of the way please" I say.

"Come sit with us, you don't have anyone else but Nate and Seth and for one, Nates human, he doesn't have what we have. And two, Seth is such a human wannabe" the guy tells me and I sigh.

"Okay, so first, I have Lilly to sit with, second, Nate doesn't have what you have, which is a lack of manners, that's why I hang out with him instead of you, and three, so what if Seth likes humans better than Vampires? It seems vampires are just rude honestly, so it's good that Seth knows how to be humane" I rant at them "now please let us pass"
