I wasn't supporting Hugh, because they weren't competing with each other. It was some other guy against Carden. And then another guy against Hugh.
So I had to root for both of them.
"Thanks for coming Eva, you'll see, I'll wipe the floor with this guy, with you here I can't lose!" Hugh says over-dramatically, fist pumping the air.
I sit front and centre next to the court, and next to the bags and the water bottles. There are girls sitting in rows at the back, or even trying to get as close to the front as possible. They sound excitable and yet at the same time they whisper about me and make themselves cynical.
For the time being Carden sat next to me. But he had still yet to talk to me. I had still yet to talk to him. I stole a quick glance at him, considering it now.
No no, now's not the right time, it's a private conversation not one for the world to hear.
"I haven't seen you hang out with Nate much recently, are you guys okay? Did something happen?" Sam asks me all of a sudden.
This must be in reference to what happened in the halls.
"No, we just haven't hung out, maybe it's because I've been hanging out with Hayden and Lilly a lot this week" I say glancing at Carden to see if the mention of Hayden has any effect on him. I can't tell anything.
It's kind of depressing that I haven't talked to Nate is so long, yet he still bothers to ask if I'm okay and worry. I'm a bad friend. I don't want to cut ties with him. I've just been trying to make some with others, branch out more.
The red haired girl is here. She's sitting behind me. I completely forgot until she draped her arms over Cardens shoulders. Then it was painfully obvious.
"Hey" she smiles.
"Hey" he says back without moving or looking at her.
"So cold Carden" she says then turns to me "can we talk?"
I can tell she's just trying to irk him. The knowing smirk playing on her deep red painted lips telling me so.
Carden now turns his head and flares at her "no, you can't"
"No I want to talk, it's okay" I say, catching the two off guard.
