I was I a deep sleep when I was interrupted by a loud scream. “YOU!” My eyes shot open. “WAKE UP! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE WITH HER NOT ASLEEP!” Chris yelled at me. I jumped up falling out of the chair, knocking it over as he yelled at me. Quickly, I stood up and took a deep breath. I knew whatever was coming I deserved it.
“Mr. Argent I’m sorry! She wa-“ I tried to explain myself to him. I truly did but he wouldn’t have it. The veins in his neck were bulging and I could see him clenching his fists, holding himself back from punching me. Honestly, I deserved the punch. I was the reason this happened to his daughter, I had faild Allison.
“I. DON’T. CARE. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN WITH HER!” He was yelling even louder and I began to step back away from him. I was actually scared now. Sweat was dripping from my head as my nerves ran wild. Again, he was right. If I would have just been there with Allison, she would be safe right now. She wouldn’t be in pain. If I would have been the boyfriend I thought I was, if I had any decency at all, I would have been there. A tear fell down my cheek as I thought about how if I wasn’t in her life, Allison would actually be happy. Nothing bad would have happened to her. Everything bad happened because of me.
“I know… I- I didn’t want to-“ I was interrupted once again.
Her father moved towards me until he was inches from my face yelling at me, “I TRUSTED YOU WITH HER! YOU SAID YOU WOULD PROTECT HER!” He grabbed my arm and threw me at the wall as hard as he could. My head hit first and I put my head against it. More and more tears fell from my face as I looked up at him laughing down at me.
Allison came running out of the bathroom to yell at him, “Dad! Stop it’s not his fault.” She began to sob now and yelled, “Stop it!” It was the scariest thing I have ever heard. The tone in her voice was so weak it almost made me cry even harder. I’ve never heard Allison sound so weak and vulnerable in my entire life and it scared me.
I watched as she stopped her father from getting any closer to her. He was even crying at this point. I stood up quickly and ran towards her wrapping my arms around her completely. I did it as gently as possible, but I wanted her to know that she was safe now and that I was here for her. Allison continued to sob in my arms and I just ran my hand through her hair and led her back to her bed. She lay down with me next to her and she sobbed into my arms. Allison’s father left quickly and we stayed there all day. When she started to cry harder I whispered to her, “I love you so much Allison.” I kissed her forehead gently and ran my hands through her hair some more, “I’ll keep saying it all day long babe. I love you sooooo much.” I stretched out the “so” hoping that I could make her at least smile.
Allison’s father came to take her home and she begged me to ride in the back with her. I didn’t care about my motor cycle! I promised that I wouldn’t leave her alone until she was home and I was sticking with it. Obviously her father wasn’t too thrilled about it all but Allison made it very clear to him that she would not leave without me.
An hour later, we had arrived at my house and Allison got out of the car with me. “Where do you think you’re going Allison?” He asked her.
They argued about her staying with me and she wouldn’t even call him dad. She just called him dad because according to her, any trace of his little girl she had left was taken away from her the night before. Those words killed me inside. I felt as if someone had ripped my heart out. It was all my fault. I hated myself so much for it.
She walked away from her father’s car and to my front door. I exchanged one last angry glance with her father before following her and wrapping my arms around her waist from behind to help her. My mother was of course being sweet to her and Allison knew that I had told her. I felt bad but then again, she was my mother. How could I not tell her?
I just wished I could take everything back that I could have saved her that night, I would have become the hero I should have been.
