Chapter 23

"Lo?"

"Lauren?" Camila whispered again.

No response.

The smaller girl slowly turned to face her mate who was still sleeping lightly. Camila stared at Lauren's facial features, scanning over her perfect nose and jaw structure carefully with her eyes. This girl was so damn beautiful. Her raven coloured hair gently fell over her face, covering the left side of it.

The younger girl yawned, looking at Lauren's peaceful sleeping figure but then realised that she too, must have fallen asleep.

"Lauren?" Camila repeated, this time a little bit louder than before. Still no response from the older girl.

"Hey Lauren?" Camila chuckled softly, playing mindlessly with Lauren's raven locks of hair, twisting them lightly in between her fingers. "You better not be dead on me." She stated, moving closer to Lauren's face so they were only centimetres away from each other.

That's when Lauren started laughing, burying her head into Camila's shoulder playfully. "You're such a dork, Camz." She giggled, her voice more raspy than usual due to tiredness. Camila could get used to all of this. Her and Lauren together. Everything.

"Guess what?" Camila asked, her hands still tangled in her mates wild hair. Lauren moved back, emerald eyes meeting chocolate, waiting for a response hesitantly. "Ever since I've known that we were mates, my nightmare has gone. I don't have them anymore." Camila smiled so widely it hurt her cheeks.

"Wait..." Lauren's eyes widened slightly, "you had nightmares?"

Camila nodded and Lauren sat up, resting her head against the headboard behind her. "C'mere." She whispered and held out her arm for the smaller girl to scoot into. Camila sat up, placing her head on Lauren's chest as the green eyed girl wrapped her arm around the younger one protectively, rubbing circles into her bare shoulder. "Tell me what happened."

"Okay," Camila sighed, "basically, they consisted of you and you're parents killing my father... The nightmare lasted a while, a couple of years honestly, and I didn't know how to get rid of it." She paused, "I had this idea in my head that maybe if I killed you or got rid of you, then it would go away and leave me alone. But that wouldn't have helped, it probably would have made it a lot worse to be honest. But ever since I found out that we were mates, it's gone. I don't even know why Lauren, you just make me feel so safe. That's why I wanted you to be alpha and lead our packs when we decide to join together."

Lauren stared at her mate who was looking up at her all cute and innocent. She didn't know what to say. Lauren had never known about Camila's nightmares and the situations she had been in. Instead of saying anything, the older girl leant over and placed her lips softly against her mates. The kiss was so gentle and meaningful that Camila could sense Lauren's passion and understanding through it. When they pulled away, Lauren caressed the side of Camila's cheek and smiled at her lovingly.

"I love you."

Camila's heart thumped hard against her rib cage. This was so sudden, a big surprise, "What? Really? You mean it? Like seriously, you're not just saying this? I mean-"

"Camzi, stop rambling." Lauren giggled.

Camila shook her head and laughed anxiously, "Sorry."

The two stared at each other and a comfortable silence fell between them both. "Camila?" Lauren asked after a few moments. The small brunette looked back up and waited for Lauren to continue. "Since we are mates..."

"Yo camren!" The door swung open suddenly and in came Dinah, Normani sniggering and following behind. Camila jumped, taken aback by the action and almost fell off the bed.

"Jesus Christ guys." Lauren exhaled, shocked. Dinah and Normani burst out laughing, "Woah! What were you guys doing? You were in here for almost an hour." The caramel haired girl chuckled and watched as Camila's eyes widen. She turned to look at Lauren in confusion, they had slept like that for nearly an hour. Camila had almost forgotten the real reason why she was here, to tell Lauren about Austin.

"Well, I didn't even realise." Lauren chuckled facing Camila but informing Dinah. "I told Camz to come over to me and we ended up sleeping here." She gestured around herself. "And nothing happened by the way." She added, clearing the air. She watched as the two other pair of mates, Normani and Dinah, coloured their faces with a suggestive smirk. Camila blushed because of embarrassment and also at the sheer thought of her and Lauren sleeping together.

But Camila soon came up with a come back for Dinah, "What were you two doing for almost an hour? Or do I not want to know?" Dinah just smiled and took Normani's hand in her own, "We were catching up and I told her about the time I found you and Lauren making love in the middle of the forest."

Camila almost choked, "You fucking savage." She buried her head underneath the sheets to hide her hot and burning blush from the other girls, whilst they all laughed simultaneously. Lauren pounced on the smaller girl and wrapped her arms around her, still laughing gently.

When the laughter died down, Camila reemerged from the bed sheets and looked around at the other three girls, it's like they had been friends forever...

"Hey chancho. Have you told Lauren why we are here yet?" Dinah announced, walking forward to sit on the bed beside Lauren and Camila. Camila lowered her head and shook it sadly. She inhaled heavily before beginning.

"Lo, we came here to tell you something." Camila sighed and Lauren sensed the disappointment in her mates voice so she placed a comforting hand over hers. "We know who killed our parents."

She felt Lauren's hand tighten around her own for a second but then the tension soon disappeared and Camila looked up to notice her green eyed mate nodding subtly. "Well, Justin knows him." The brunette corrected herself and frowned slightly. Dinah and Normani watched and kept silent as this was their moment and it wasn't something to interrupt. "We are gonna get him Lauren. We are gonna make him pay. I am. I promise you. I swear to you." Camila nodded, sadness taking over as she whispered the last four words.

"I am too baby." Lauren replied, emotionless. It was only her eyes that spoke. They were filled with hatred and anger and if Camila wasn't her mate, she would feel totally intimated and frightened by this girl. Lauren wasn't playing around. She wasn't crying and it didn't seem to come as a shock to her but you could sense that she was pained and that this definitely made her angry. Dinah and Normani rose to their feet, patted Camila supportively on the shoulder before leaving the room.

"I know this is a lot to process, but we can get through this. Together." Camila never broke contact with Lauren's captivating but aggressive emerald orbs. "I'll do whatever it takes to make this guy pay for what he has done to us."

After a few moments, Lauren nodded, smiled faintly and looked down at their interlocking hands.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" Lauren blurted out, above a whisper.

Camila's lips parted for a second and a gasp escaped from them. This was totally unexpected, she was completely surprised and taken aback. Lauren noticed how hesitant the girl was in her answer and she started to regret how straight forward she was being, "I mean, it's cause we are gonna need to do this together you know and I thought that maybe. Well, if you-"

"I love you too." Camila smiled and leant forward, taking Lauren's bottom lip in her own.

Yes. Of course it was going to be a yes.
