August 28, 2015

It began as a normal day, the August sun shone brightly in the sky leaving a blanket of burning hot air

The air conditioner continuously groaned in the background

No one had anywhere to be, so we all stayed home. A rerun of friends played on the tv but no one was watching

Tanner was on the couch, engulfed in a sea of papers and textbook, his laptop on top of one of the textbooks, he claims he's getting some early studying. The twins were both asleep in the rooms. Gabriel was making a sandwich and Caleb sat across the chessboard looking at me

I picked up one of the pieces and showed it to him "what does this one do?"

"That's a rook, It only goes in straight lines" he explained

I nodded putting it back in it's place then picked up another one holding it up "this one?"

"That's a knight, it goes in an L shape" he said drawing out the L in the air

This kept going on for at least a minute when I knew what pieces did what

Exactly five minutes later, the game heated up. It was tense between me and Caleb and my limited experience only made this worse for me

I rubbed my hands over my face then looked at the chess board. My mind was a jumbled mess

"Move your knight" Gabriel said. I looked at him as his elbows rested on his knees and his thumb brushed his lower lip concentrating on the chessboard

My stomach did a weird clenching thing and I blinked coming out of my daze

"No" I denied. And previous plans to move my knight faded, he can't tell me what to do. I moved my king instead, an impetuous action

I had no idea what Caleb did but the ended up winning, again and again and again until he finally quit

"Noo" I whined as he stood up and stretched then walked into the kitchen

The sun began to set and a cry came from the room then two

By now after a month I have mastered picking them up

After their feeding I walked into the livingroom with them both in my arms

"Tanner can you burp Mason?" I asked him

His eyes stayed trained on the textbook "five minutes" he muttered. I rolled my eyes and passed Mason to Gabriel who was already positioned on the couch with his arms open, that's the only place he can hold them and Caleb was out of the question with babies

"Thank you" I told him

Caleb went to the bathroom when there was a knock on the door

"I'll get it" I announced, I was the only one who could Gabriel can't leave the couch with one if the babies in hand and Tanner was in a world of his own

With every step I grew closer to the door, without asking who I held onto the knob then turned. Gabriel watched helplessly from the couch

As soon as I opened the door a warm liquid traveled down my back, my body tensed immediately. Madison had vomited on me

The pizza man was at the other side of the door, a familiar vibe came from him

"Duuude, Tiffany?" The pizza man said shifting the pizza box to one hand

"Who are you?" I asked shifting my feet from side to side. A gentle breeze flew in from outside dragging the scent of the pizza and mixing it with the baby vomit causing a seemingly toxic scent, I almost gagged
