Chapter 21

Elena P.O.V.

They stopped and looked at the scene in front of them. Once in the hospital, they were rushed through the corridors, but it hadn't taken a long time. They stopped abruptly and looked down the hall.

"Calm down, okay?", Harry stroked soothingly Lisa's back. "And then tell me what's going on."

She nodded slightly and after a few seconds she pushed him slowly away, taking a deep breath. Harry stroked her cheek before she looked up at him.

"I don't know how that can be possible.", her voice trembled. "I can't explain it."

"What?", Harry frowned.

Lisa looked at her hands before she lifted something they couldn't see from their position. Slowly, he took it out of her hand. He saw a few seconds on it – unsure – before he asked quietly: "Is that -"

Lisa nodded.

"What-", Bonnie began hesitantly.

"Do you hear that?", Caroline breathed.

Elena focused on her surroundings, perceived heartbeats, but one thing was different. There was a much faster heartbeat than usual. Her eyes flew again over to Lisa and finally down to her stomach.

"We have failed.", she whispered dejected.

"That's impossible.", Harry shook his head and looked at her. "We have never ..."

"I know.", she nodded. "And before you even think about it. I wasn't with anyone else."

"I would never contemplated that."

"How far are you?"

"At the end of the sixth week.", the doctor said, who was studying both.

"And that's not a mistake? I mean sometimes results are reversed.", Harry looked at her.

"No, I've already asked.", Lisa shook her head.

"We did the ultrasound thirty minutes ago. Come with me, we discuss details in my office.", the brunette-haired woman said.

As they entered the room and the door closed the rest of them looked at each other.

"And now?", Elena pressed her lips together.

"Maybe we should wait outside.", Bonnie turned around making them follow her.

Stepping in the cold wind they all breath out load.

"What shall we do?", Caroline asked. "We have to say them the truth."

"We will.", Stefan nodded. "When they are finish, we'll drive home and talk to them."

"Home means?", Bonnie raised an eyebrow. "Salvatore mansion?", which made Stefan nod again. "Right."

"I call Tyler.", Caroline walked besides. "I think we need help."

"And I call Jeremy.", Bonnie picked up her phone walked beside, too.

"That's a disaster.", Elena groaned stroking her hair. "That wasn't planned."

"We were talking about Klaus, we should have known it better." , Stefan answered.

"We have to protect her.", she breathed. "Without exceptions."

"I know."

Lisa P.O.V.

"You have these options. These three. Think about it okay? And call me.", Doctor Fell smiled. "Until then, good luck and have rest, understood, Lisa?"

I nodded and shook her hand: "Thank you."

After Harry had shaken her hand too, he took my hand in his and we were walking through the corridors toward the exit.

"I can't tell my parents.", I whispered. "Not yet."

"I know.", he squeezed my hand gently. "We talk about it first."

When we left the hospital, we saw four people on the stairs sitting in front of us, they stood up when we had taken a step.

"We drive to my home.", Stefan broke the silence. "Now."

During the entire trip, Harry and I remained silent. My tears were dried up for now and I saw every second minute on my stomach. I didn't feel pregnant at all.

"You keep the picture with you.", I whispered as he parked the car.

"Okay.", he nodded got out of the car und opened my door helping me out.

"I cook coffee?", Bonnie asked as they stepped into the Salvatore mansion.

"Great idea.", Caroline smiled slightly.

"You are late.", Damon stepped out of the kitchen in the fireplace room, which was adjacent directly to the hallway.

We were just coming down the few steps as he started again: "Who is here so nervous?"

I didn't even listened, a lot of thoughts rushed through my mind.

"So – haven't heard such a heartbeat a long time.", he mused; Caroline coughed loudly. "The last time, this one -" but he broke off ending with: "Oh! "

"Then congratulations, huh?", he brought me back from my thoughts jumble.

"Please – what?", I frowned. "Congratulations?"

"You're carrying a baby.", he looked at me.

"No.", I shook my head. "That's impossible."

"Well, that sounds in any case different.", he nodded to my stomach. "There's a second faster heartbeat than yours."

"You ... you hear heartbeats?", Harry and I asked simultaneously, all except Bonnie nodded, who came back from the kitchen.

"Coffee is almost done.", she sighed sitting down on the couch. "Let's talk."

It took another ten minutes until the bell rang, after Tyler and Jeremy came in looking at Harry and me.

"Then get out with the language.", Tyler was leaned against the couch crossing his arms. "Why are we here?"

"We have a problem." Elena nodded making me look at her.

"We?", I raised an eyebrow.

"Yes - we."

"What do you mean?", I frowned confused. "Will you talk to my parents?"

"This will be the smallest problem.", Stefan pressed – next to Elena – his lips together.

"It will be a confrontation.", I replied. "If I ever survive this conversation!"

"You're not going alone through this.", Harry shook his head determined.

"He will kill you.", I breathed in disbelief. "We can't even remember it!"

"There is something you should know."

We saw from one another and turned to Stefan.

"You should sit down first." Elena smiled uncertainly.

               What we did and wait, while slowly sipping our coffee.
