Aliona's P.O.V

Damon headed out to find Anna, I couldn't go with him because I didn't want to face her. So I went with Stefan instead. He said that he had a plan as to where the grimoire was and that seemed more productive that having a catchup with Anna. The only thing was that Stefan hadn't told Damon that he might know where it is, he explained that he'd lied to Damon and didn't want the tomb to be opened at all.

"So why do you think that the grimoire is buried with father exactly?" I asked as we entered the cemetery, walking over to his grave.

"Because don't you remember what he used to say to us?" He asked as I raised an eyebrow. "He had many secrets that he was taking to the grave."

"He always said he'd have a full grave." I nodded in remembrance, Stefan threw me a shovel as Elena stood back hesitantly.

"Elena you can go back if you want." Stefan offered but she shook her head and stabbed the shovel into the old soil.

After a few hours of digging, it had grown dark as my shovel finally hit the wood of the coffin. I shuddered at the realisation that I was about to come face to face with my long deceased father, a man I had once feared but now was barely a skeleton.

"You okay?" Stefan asked me as I turned to him with tears in my eyes.

"Yeah, I'm just trying to remember why I was so scared of him." I admitted as he nodded grimly, he'd never been scared of father and often took time to speak to him and spend time with him. I on the other hand didn't speak to him unless spoken to.

Stefan pushed the last remnants of soil away from the lid and pulled it open, revealing the grey rotten bones and putrid stench of death. Surely enough in his hands was the grimoire, the old book clutched between his bones and holding secrets that he did truly take to the gave.

Stefan took the book as he also had tears in his eyes, avoiding looking down at our father. He placed it on the ground by Elena's feet as we stood in the grave and opened up the book. We began to flick through the pages until a voice stopped us.

"Well what do you know." We all jumped and turned to see a pissed off Damon emerging through the trees. "This is an interesting turn of events."

"I can't let you bring her back." Stefan spoke as we both got out of the grave and faced Damon. "I'm sorry."

"So am I. For thinking for even a second that I could trust you." He shook his head as Stefan sighed.

"You are not capable of trust, the fact that you're here means that you've read the journal and were planning on doing this yourself." Stefan countered as Damon stepped forwards.

"Of course I was going to do it by myself because the only one I can count on is me." Damon raised his voice at the end causing me to jump slightly. "You made sure of that years ago Stefan. But you two..." Damon turned to me and Elena. "You both had me fooled." He spoke sadly as I opened my mouth to say something, but shut it abruptly. "So what are you going to do now? Because if you try and destroy that I'll rip her heart out." Damon threatened.

"You won't kill her." Stefan spoke slightly too calmly.

"No I can do one better than that." Damon sped over to Elena and grabbed her, biting into his wrist and feeding her his blood. "I can snap her neck and then you'll have a vampire girlfriend." He threatened as I rolled my eyes, this truly was turning into Katherine again.

"Let her go first." Stefan spoke as Damon lowered his wrist but shook his head.

"The book." He motioned to where it lay on the ground, I sped forwards and grabbed it. "Ali come on." He growled at me as I glanced between him and Elena.

"We won't give it back until Elena is standing right next to me." Stefan spoke for us both, and I knew he wasn't lying. But Damon couldn't have this book.

"How do I know you're not lying again?" Damon growled.

"Because you just did the one thing that will ensure that I won't." He gestured to Elena, I stared at my brother and realised that he truly did love Elena. She looked frightened as a deer caught in headlights but still she definitely loved Stefan too.

Stefan grabbed the book from my hands as I glared at him, he lowered it to the ground and dropped it. Damon slowly and cautiously let go of Elena, allowing her to run to Stefan and for him to grab the book.

Swiftly Stefan whisked Elena off to safety as I was left standing with my brother.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you." I spoke as Damon looked up at me, nodding slowly.

"I'm just disappointed." He muttered as he grabbed one of the torches. "I thought you were the sibling I could trust." Damon sighed and walked off.

Mystic Falls 1864

I could hear people shouting outside as flame torches lit up the yard.

"I'm sorry that I didn't tell you sooner father." I looked down and sighed, he'd found out about Katherine being a vampire and I felt guilty about not telling him.

"It's alright Aliona, but I'm just disappointed in you." He nodded as I felt tears brimming in my eyes, it's the two things that I never wanted to do; cry in front of father and be a disappointment. "I thought you were the child that I could trust." He added as there was a sudden knock at the door. "Now go to your room and don't come out until morning, this is business that you should not see." He referred to the fact that they were going to kill Katherine tonight.

I walked past Stefan's room and watched as two men lifted up Katherine's unconscious body, I suddenly heard Damon's shouting as he ran down the hall.

"No! Don't take her!" He shouted as father pushed him up against the wall, allowing the two men to pass.

"Are you an idiot? Do you know what they'll do to you if you're caught sympathising for her? They'll kill you too!" Father yelled in Damon's face, furious with him.

"Then let me be killed." Damon spoke bitterly back as father seemed shocked I gasped too at Damon's words, he turned to see me stood in the hall.

"Aliona I told you to go to your room!" Father yelled loudly as I jumped and ran as fast as I could through the house, sitting on my bed and crying at the distress and fear that surrounded the town that night.

I heard the door slam downstairs and saw father running across the lawn, as soon as he was out of sight I ran back downstairs and out the door.

"Stefan!" I called as I ran over to him and hugged him tightly.

"It's okay, it's okay." He reassured me as Damon ran over.

"This was your doing." He spat and glared at Stefan, I frowned.

"Damon no it wasn't!" I defended Stefan but both of them shook their heads at me.

"No he promised that he wouldn't tell and he did." Damon seethed as Stefan looked upset.

"I didn't think this would happen." Stefan explained but Damon didn't want to hear it.

"You did this." He snapped before running off.

"Damon we'll get her back!" Stefan yelled as a gunshot rung throughout the yard, we both turned as Pearl fell to the ground. I had been right all along. I saw Emily holding back a crying Anna as she watched her mother get dragged away.

"Stefan why do you want Katherine back? She's a monster." I frowned but Stefan shook his head.

"Because I love her Ali." Stefan admitted as I moved away from him warily.

"But you can't! S-she's a v-vampire!" I spoke in confusion, Stefan stepped towards me but I moved away. "No! You can't! Neither can Damon! You're both going to end up dead!" I shouted at him before running off back to the house.
