"He was insane, yet he was hers."
Amelia's POV
I pushed some strands of hair out of my face and continued stirring the macaroni which was almost done.
Splotches of color graced my chest still from the exhilaration that was Noah earlier. I could faintly see it as I eyed the food.
Rain had howled as he took us over the edge whereas I'd cried out for him and he'd kissed me before holding me as I calmed down.
Did I regret it? I'm not entirely sure.
I was staring at the macaroni and cheese when suddenly my doorbell rang.
I stopped stirring and walked over to the door and peeked out before opening.
Heather rushed inside.
I laughed at my old friend as she hopped up and down and yelled, "Happy Birthday!" She put two boxes down, one very carefully.
"You're quite lively for an old woman." I teased and she huffed.
"Well this old geezer made you a cake, but I guess you won't want it." She said and my mouth opened.
"No I was kidding!" I cried and she smirked.
"That's what I thought." She said with a curt nod.
As she stood there Noah came from the room and paused. Heather saw him and froze.
"Who's this?" She asked and Noah gave a shy smirk immediately throwing on a shirt, hiding his beautiful body.
"Hey I'm Noah... nice to meet you." He said and I chuckled softly.
"Heather this is Noah my... friend. Noah this is Heather she kinda was my mother figure in a way." I said and they said their greetings.
"So Amelia why is he... in your house?" Heather said shooting me a knowing look.
"He- we just went to sleep." I said and my friend raised her eyebrows.
"Sleep eh?" Heather said and I nodded frantically.
"Well we kissed too babe, remember? That nice, long make out?" Noah said with a smirk and I felt my cheeks blush.
My eyes met his for a moment and he winked softly. I smiled and looked at the ground.
We all sat at the table eating the cake, which was marvelously made, the dirty plates we'd used for the macaroni lay in the sink soaking.
It was really quiet and by the way Heather kept looking at me, I knew something was up.
"What's wrong Heather?" I asked and she was quiet for a bit and seemed to ponder over whether she should say anything. Finally she let out a breath.
"It's about Kaden." As soon as the words left her mouth the room grew tense.
"What about him?" I asked trying to keep my voice steady. I took another bite of the cake.
"He killed your original pack." She said and I looked at her in shock. The fork I held dropped back onto the plate with a noisy clatter.
"What?" I gasped and she gave a solemn nod.
"Every last one... even the children..." Heather said and pity flashed in her eyes. I forced myself to swallow the remainder of cake in my mouth.
"What about Axel?" I asked softly.
"He killed all of them. Then set the place on fire." She confirmed. I felt my heart drop.
"Oh Goddess..." I gasped and felt tears pricking my eyes.
For a while all was silent before Noah spoke sounding highly uneasy.
"Oh... shit... I'm not trying to sound selfish, but is he gonna come after me?" I glanced over at Noah and sighed.
"I doubt it. I mean he already tried to kill you." I said and he looked confused.
"He's not gonna hurt you Noah." I said and he sighed. Maybe... I looked at Heather and she let out a breath.
"He did it for you... What I heard is that he was initially after your father." She said and I nodded slowly.
I took a deep breath and sighed.
"Thanks for letting me know Heather." I said and she nodded.
We resumed eating in silence for a while before Heather got up and offered me the other box.
I eyed it and she smiled and I opened the present.
I looked at the ceramic wolves howling and frowned a little.
One wolf was a grayish-tannish white, the other a black wolf with white paws and tail. I bit my lip softly as I stared at the gift.
"I made it myself." Heather said and I looked at her lost for words.
"Th-thanks Heather." I managed to get out and she gave me a long look before nodding.
"Of course." She said and hugged me gently a soft smile gracing her lips.
"I want you to be happy." She muttered to me before pulling away.
I nodded and put the ceramic on my shelf away from view and out of mind.
Should I post the next chapter tonight as well?
