"It hurt."

Amelia's POV

I looked at Kaden as he leaned in the doorway.

"Go out with me tonight." He said cupping my cheek and stepping close to me. He obviously didn't sense that Rain and I were trying not to snap at him.

"Is that a question or a command?" I asked tilting my head slightly and my mate smirked. He leaned closer his smirk widening.

"A command." He whispered and leaned in to kiss me...

I backed away and he frowned. He gave me a long look and confusion flashed in his eyes.

"You kinda have to go anyway. It's an Alpha party." He said shoving his hands in his pockets.

I nodded slowly.

"What's wrong?" He asked and I nodded to the shirt.

"That girl." I growled and for a moment Kaden froze. He looked around swiftly.

"What girl?" He asked quickly and I raised an eyebrow.

"Amy's scent was on a shirt I left... Is something wrong?" I asked kind of concerned with the way he'd paled. The color quickly returned and he smiled softly.

"Amy's no threat to you anymore." He said and gave me a soft look and I nodded slowly, but I couldn't help feeling a little like something was off.

"Okay Kaden." Was all I said as I slipped past him and went into the bathroom...

I looked around the horde of elite wolves and groaned inwardly. Don't get me wrong, being in a room full of Alphas and Lunas was great, especially if you were one of them, but I couldn't shake this nagging feeling inside me. Rain was on edge as well, sniffing the air and growling every so often.

The light gray dress I wore was a bit showy and part of me wanted it off. I sighed and ran a hand through my hair while Rain whined to get out and run.

"...then we'll leave, okay?" Kaden's voice fluttered around my ears and I blinked before looking at him.

"Wait. You weren't talking to me were you?" I asked and he gave me a look of disdain.

"Damnit Amelia. What were you doing the whole time? Yes I was talking to you." Kaden growled and I blinked at him.

"Well... I'm sorry I was thinking--" I began.

"About what?" Kaden cut me off and I gazed at him in confusion. What crawled up his butt?

"You know what? Nothing. It doesn't matter." I said and shrugged. I wasn't in the mood to play with his unprovoked anger.

"It must have been something for you to ignore me." He said gruffly and glared at me like I'd told him I'd cheated or something.

"It's nothing really." I said and he suddenly wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer. My heart stuttered at the action as his hand settled on my hip and he held me beside him.

"Fine then. You stay beside me tonight." He growled and his nails dug into my hip and I gasped in pain.

"Understand?" He said in a dark voice and I nodded.

"Yes." I said and he stopped clawing me and settled his hand back on my hip.

"Good girl." He growled and I looked away from him. The hell had gotten into him?

"Are you okay?" I asked softly still avoiding his gaze.

"Fine." Kaden said bluntly and tugged me toward the crowd.

He led me through the mass of people until we were beside a table holding food and drinks.

He paused and grabbed a beer from the table before drinking it down. I frowned softly as I watched him, but didn't say anything.

As I watched Kaden another alpha walked over and offered a small chuckle.

"Ah, Alpha Kaden." The alpha said dipping his head to my mate whom smirked. He put down the empty beer.

"Alpha Foxin." Kaden said back and the two shook hands.

"Who's this?" Alpha Foxin said staring at me and Kaden pulled me a bit closer.

"This is Amelia, my mate." Kaden said and the alpha smiled at me before smirking at Kaden.

"You're a lucky man." Foxin said and I felt my cheeks burn a bit and I looked at the ground.

Alpha Foxin chuckled at my reaction and huffed, "No need to be ashamed dear, you're exceptionally beautiful. I'm almost tempted to steal you." The alpha gave me a wink and my eyebrows raised before Kaden growled darkly.

Alpha Foxin laughed and nervousness laced his chuckle.

"But of course I won't. I was joking." He said quickly and Kaden grunted and pulled me closer.

"Better've been." Kaden growled.

"Yes, after all no one wants to see another incident like with what happened to Alpha Axel and his pack." Alpha Foxin said staring at Kaden with a masked look to his eyes.

Kaden snorted and sucked on his teeth. His golden eyes flashed before he said, "That's good to know."

Alpha Foxin dipped his head then sighed, "So are you having trouble with any rouges?"

He grabbed a beer and sipped at it as his eyes flicked between Kaden and I.
