17| Let Me Tell You A Story

"Life makes us tough."

Amelia's POV

"So what happened?" I asked Nancy as we sat in her new room. She crossed her legs and toyed with the stuffed wolf Kaden had gave to her.

It'd been a shock to both of us girls when the alpha had appeared in the doorway and given her the brown plush wolf. Nancy had looked at me after Kaden left as if I had something to do with it and I shook my head.

"What?" She asked.

"Your parents." I said and she sighed.

"We used to live in a house in the woods. My mama and daddy were outside with my one day... We were playing tag..." Nancy said and looked at the wolf toy.

"Then these strange wolves came and mama and daddy turned into their wolves and told me to go inside, but I didn't. They started fighting and I didn't know what to do."

"My parents won, but they looked really bad. They made it inside and turned back and got dressed, but they were so tired... they went to sleep and never woke up." Nancy said and sighed.

I wiped the tears from her pretty, blue eyes.

"I'm so sorry Nancy." I said and she gave a small smile.

"It's okay, it makes me tough." She said and I hugged her to me.

"Yes, you're a tough little one." I sighed.

I sat in Kaden and I's room on the edge of the bed. A question nagged in my brain.

"Why'd you give Nancy that toy?" I asked and Kaden glanced over from where he was messing with some paperwork.

"Ryan told me she was wanting a teddy bear." My mate said gruffly. I raised an eyebrow.

"I couldn't find a damn teddy bear." He finished and turned his attention back to the papers and started writing something down.

"Okay..." I said and he looked at me for a moment before he went back to writing.

"Rogues killed her parents." I said and Kaden glanced up and nodded slowly as if thinking.

"Speaking of rogues... what happened? The girls told me, but I wanna hear it from you." Kaden wondered and set his papers down before staring at me.

"Those rogues today were going to rape them Kaden... They wanted to do a trade, me or them... I couldn't let that happen." I said and I saw a look flash in his eyes, but then he blinked.

"We'll find the two that got away. I'm tired of these damned rogues." Kaden growled.

I sighed and got in bed.
