Chapter 6 (Layric)-

I lay on my back and watched the sun slowly rise through the window in the center of the empty wall. Something I always do when I can't sleep, which is frequently. Saying I'm a 'light sleeper' would be an understatement, with my faunus instincts, a stray cat stepping on leaves outside the wall would make me dart my eyes open in a second. So one could assume whatever happened last night threw me into consciousness so abruptly I couldn't even assess the situation until it had been dealt with. I of course did watch Scav slam that guy into the ground from a distance, observing without being noticed is something I'm pretty good at. Scav went back to sleep before I could ask him anything, though it was mostly explained by his conversation with The headmistress who mysteriously appeared.

I looked out the window once more, it was about nine o'clock judging by the sun's position. So three hours until I had to go line up for the initiation. I wondered what that entailed of. First, I figured, it would be best for me to find Scav. I think there was some sort of duo system in the initiation and I'll be damned if I'm stuck with some random fool, especially if it turned out to be permanent. I heard some students already got paired...I hoped I wasn't paired yet but just didn't know it. Pre organizing this was something I expected but I was not going to accept anything less than the person I was already comfortable around.

I sat up on my sleeping bag (I don't like zipping myself up in a sack around many people I don't trust) and hastily got up. I threw on my green cloaked jacket and old, brown, hunting boots before picking up my arrow quiver and strapping it on my back with my bow resting on top; then, silently walked out the main exit. I looked around the spacious empty room as I walked out, there were only two other students still sleeping. Wait, how the hell did everyone else slip out without me noticing? I must've been to overwhelmed in all this anxiety the new setting gave me.

I put down my rogue-like hood which concealed my eyes from most perspectives (I can still see fine of course). I also pulled up my facemask as I exited through the main entrance; only the bridge of my nose could be seen through that. I wasn't face-shy or planning on robbing a store, It's just easier to get around like this, with my eyes and all.

Now where might have Scavenger wandered off to? He left along with everyone else during my half hour nap, or so I assume. The only two people I saw leave were that Axi guy and Irene. I tuned into them arguing when they both glimpsed at me for a second then Axi started whispering something I couldn't hear, not sure how I fit into the conversation because I hadn't the slightest idea what they were arguing about. Eh whatever, nothing I cared about I was sure.

I walked around the front of the building for a bit but he was still nowhere in sight. Damit Scav, where did you run off too? I walked over to a small tree in a square of dirt in the middle of the sidewalk area. I leaned my back against it and pulled my face mask down a bit to imitate some bird whistles Scav and I used when hunting grim. I inched my facemask over my lower nose again and waited with crossed arms in a relaxed position.

I glanced around the area as I waited. So this was my new school. I never thought I'd get into a huntsman academy; not because I lacked the skill, but because I was an outsider, an outcast. So was Scavenger, of course; which was why we stuck together. I suppose this place would be good for us though. We'll be able to make money doing official huntsman business and wouldn't have to do illegal work. I didn't see why it was illegal though; we hunt criminals that Huntsman don't go after for whatever reason...we were doing the world a favor. Then again, legalizing unofficial bounties was the first step to anarchy. Guess it was better off that business stays incognito.
