Chapter 42 (Laric)-
Today was the first day I would be able to fight in forever, and let me tell you, I was fighting today, I've had enough of taking it easy. I felt sorry for whoever was going against me because after helplessly losing my best friend before even being knocked out made me hungry for a fair battle. There was no way I was losing my duel today, and I'm killing that crazy eyed prick when I find him.
Time crawled by as I waited for combat class; but finally, it was here. The professor did his short lecture and soon enough, he asked what I was dying to hear for a while now.
"Any volunteers? Today we're doing one on one." My hand was in the air before he even finished his sentence, "Okay, Layric. Although, are you sure you'll be okay after your...incident?"
I glanced at the class and smirked. They were all nervously looking at me, "Yes, I'll be fine." Ever since word got out about what I did that got me in the hospital in the first place, no one even playfully challenged me.
"Okay! Any takers?"
"I'll do it!" Someone I vaguely recognized stood up.
"Wait...it's that idiot who actually thought Irene liked him," I muttered to myself.
"Very well. Competitors, grab your gear and enter the arena," The professor rumbled. I got all my things and was the first one on the stage. The other guy- mr.Mohawk, walked into the arena wearing stuff you'd imagine a punk looking wanna-be bad boy would wear; including his weapon; a spiked baseball bat.
"You were quick to challenge me," I pulled my hood up as we stared each other down.
"You know how the old saying goes. Kick him while he's down," He grinned.
"Hmm, seems I won't feel any pity for kicking your teeth in." I smirked. His confidence turned to confusion as the professor called match. He charged first, like I'd expect someone with no experience to do. I dodged last second and kicked his shins to trip him, but he managed to get up in a swift roll. Perhaps this won't be as boring as I thought.
I unsheathed my blades and swung at him; he blocked and I hit him with a counter kick. Our weapons met a few more times while attempting to knock each other down; neither of us succeeding at first.
"So, I guess you can fight Lizard-boy!" He laughed as he dusted off his spiked shoulder pads. The professor yelled something about no profane insults, but no one ever payed attention to him during fights. I stared him down as we circled each other, waiting for an opportunity to strike.
"You the 'cool silent type?' Or does the animal in you take control when your adrenaline pumps up," He taunted as he lunged at me out of nowhere.
I barely blocked his swing; the flat end of my blade being pushed against my chest. I managed to swing out of the attack and hit him with an elbow, which he responded by slugging me in the gut as he staggered forward.
I dodged back and kept myself in a defensive position; trying to regain stamina. Damn, have I really become this weak; letting this moron best me.
I transformed boy two blades into bow form as he attempted to lose distance between us. I fired a swift arrow, which he blocked with his shoulder pad while he ran. He fainted low then swung high with the real blow, which missed me as I leapt to the side. I fired an explosive arrow to the ground, sending us both flying back. I catch myself in a land, having done this move many times before.
CHNK! What looked like the upper half of his spiked bat landed inches from my foot. There's a chain attached to the base! I internally thought in surprise as the bat began sliding rearwards, being pulled by a clanking chain.
