   Chapter 14 (Layric)-

My eyes snapped open to the sound of someone opening the door. I sat up in bed and reached for my bow and quiver, which were propped up on the side of my bed. I had already drawn my bow when I realized it was Scavenger exiting the room. Where the hell was he going? It has to be past midnight. I got up silently, sliding my quiver on my back. I tailed him down the dark hallway, which was fortunately made easy with my fanus eyes. I made sure to remain silent as I followed, just incase. I saw him standing still by the elevator, waiting for it to reach our floor. I was about to just approach him and asked what he's doing when I remembered...His truck!

Scav was most likely sneaking out to go work on his truck, since me and Irene interrupted him earlier. I'm not sure why it's such a priority to him at the moment, guess he wants it in top shape. Well I may as well go help him or something, I'm not getting back to sleep. I went down the stairs, which were across from the elevator, as I turned into the main hallway, it was empty. Scav must've already been out by the garage. I stretched my arms as I made my way to the main doors, and pushed it open. A wisp of cool air blew against my face as I walked out, the temperature has seemed to drop since this evening but, I didn't mind, I preferred the cold usually, even though I'm a little cold blooded.

"Now where was that garage again?" I muttered to myself. I scanned around looking for familiar landmarks when I saw two silhouettes in the woods. My thought instantly said, grim, and judging by the figure of the one on the right, it would appear to be a stray couple of beowolfs. Hold on, My eyes must be deceiving me, The left shadow, it looked humanoid, And I've never seen a humanoid grim. I snuck closer to try and see exactly what it is. Once again, My fanus night vision helped me because as I got closer I could make out it was definitely a human. Wait no, they had a tail, they're a fanus. Regardless, what was a sentient being doing next to a creature of grim? Something's definitely out of order, the fanus was staring down at the beowolf while it just stood there.

I saw the fanus stick his chin up and scan around the area. Ah hell, I have no cover! I was too distracted by the fact that this fanus and grim seemed to be allies. Just as I expected he saw me, he froze still for a second, unsure of what to do, like me. Well working with grim won't bring any positive publicity. Glad I brought my bow and quiver, I pulled out an arrow and fired at him but the beowolf apparently had a friend hiding in the bushes who jumped out just at the right moment to take the arrow in the side. It being a beowolf, an ordinary arrow in its upper side didn't do too much. The two beowolves charged me without a second thought and lunged for me. I managed to stick an arrow between the eyes of the first one I saw, causing it to drop in agony and it began to dissolve. The second one lunged forward and bit my arm. A grim's bite burns like lava, FYI! I kicked it in the chin and jabbed at its eyes with my free hand, forcing it to loosen its clamp. When it did I did not waste the chance, I pulled an arrow out of my quiver with one hand and latched my fingers around the grim's upper jaw as it tried to bite me once more. I forced it's neck up before it could crush my fingers. I jabbed the arrow into its throat and kept pushing until it stopped moving. Once I saw its body burn up into ash, I yanked my arrow out of its neck and lay it back in my quiver.

The fanus! I instantly remembered. I faced the woods once again but alas, there appeared to be no sign of any humanoid ever being there from this distance. I slowly paced forward with my bow drawn, incase this was a trap. And I may have been right because a fairly large ursa came into view, staring at me with its emotionless red eyes. I aimed the bow at it when I heard an engine closing in, followed immediately by Scavenger's truck smashing the grim into a tree with its front bumper. The tree began to tip over once the truck (or grim's body technically) made contact with it. I watched it fall over halfway before being caught by another tree.
