  Chapter 31 (Layric)-

There she was, standing all alone. No, They're gonna get to her! I jolted forward, sprinting at my maximum speed, almost near her, but it's too late. She's staring right at me when the sword hits.

"NO!" I ran as her still living body fell through the collapsing floor. I grabbed her hand, but her light weight quickly grew to that of a building. Her arm was forced from my hand as she fell deeper and deeper into the pit of nothingness. All your fault, all your fault. The words echoed in my mind. You got me killed, Layric, Georgia's voice spoke within my head, And You're going to do the same to her.

My eyes automatically turned behind me, to Linena who was staring at me with a blank expression, as the black bladed sword swung down upon her.

"NO! LINENA, RUN!" I screamed as the floor around me gave way and I fell into nothingness. I plummeted towards the eye of the beast, ready to engulf me. As its jaws closed around me, my eyes snapped open and I sprung up in the dark hospital room.

What, where the hell am I? Where's everyone else? Thoughts flooded through my mind as I fully recalled what happened.

"L-Layric?" Linena gasped as she looked over to me, full of surprise.

"What, what happened? Where am I?" I grunted as I tried to sit up. "AH!" I cried as I felt a sharp pain in my stomach.

"Easy, stay still; you're hurt badly," Linena said as she put her arm on my back, helping me back down.

"Did Scav really kick the shit out of me that badly?" I asked as I saw the white bandage around my stomach. Linena smiled, guess she was pleased to see I didn't have complete amnesia.

"Don't let it hurt your pride, you kicked an equal amount of shit out of him," She said, sounding verbally relaxed. Had she been stressing over me this entire time?

"Is he alright? Have I been out all day?" I asked as I looked out the moonlit windows.

"He's still breathing, and um... It's been three days since you've been out," she explained gently.

"Three days? Seriously? Ah-"

"Take it easy, Layric," she swiftly said as she grabbed my arm.

"Sigh, sorry it's a lot to take in, being out for three days and all," I said as I started feeling pain from multiple wounds on my body.

"What's the last thing you remember?" Linena asked, as if she were a therapist.

"Well, I was running down the rope arrow, and my skin started turning green and I...grew a tail?" I sort of asked, because it seemed so odd to me that I wasn't positive it was real.

"Yes, that was what happened. Then you turned into a 50ft lizard and had a fight with Scavenger while he was rhino, and grimm came. Are you and Scav related by the way?"

"Can't say we are, why do you ask?" I wondered.

"It's just that you two have extraordinary similar semblances," she explained.

"Huh, oh right I never explained that," I remembered, "My semblance is amber; I can take any other semblance in use and temporarily make it my own, copy and paste basically. Like a lizard can copy the color of its surroundings, I can copy the semblance of another warrior."

"So your semblance is related to your heritage?"

"Yeah, it's somewhere in my family tree, that's why I have these hideous things," I said indicating my eyes. Linena paused for a moment before speaking.

"Layric, I think your eyes are beau-"

She was cut off from a bright light filling the room, nearly blinding me- someone walked in. No, there were many of them, a med team. They kicked Linena out before she could argue. A ringing in my ears suddenly started sounding, my eyes going wide from fear. I thought my hearing was going away! The doctors studied me for a few seconds- the blinking lights stopped before they did anything.

"High epinephrine levels explains it. Hey kid, did you have a nightmare?" I heard from behind one of the masked faces. They were dressed in the usual operating uniforms with the white mask blocking their mouth and nose. I sighed in relief; my hearing was back. I looked up at the doctor and nodded hesitantly.

"Welcome back, you appear to be alright, sorry for the scare, we'll leave you two alone," Another doctor said as the team left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. Linena entered the room, nothing but worry lining her face.

"Are you okay? What was that about?" She asked with a complete panic stricken face. I looked at her, somehow finding her even more attractive than before. I felt a pain in my heart, remembering my nightmare. Everyone I got close to ended up getting killed. I didn't want that with her...

I looked down, avoiding eye contact as I shook my head, "I'm fine. Doctors say I had too much...epinephrine, whatever that is, guess they're watching my heart rate on a monitor or something," I filled her in.

She laughed, relief in her voice, "It's another word for adrenaline," She explained.

"Oh right, maybe I should pay better attention in anatomy," I smiled.

"It'd certainly help," he returned a smile.

"So uh, what were you saying before team asshole made my five senses go beserk?"

"Oh um... nevermind, I'll tell you some other time," she said, her face quickly turning red, "Well, it's the middle of the night and I've been up for awhile, I think I'll be able to get some real sleep now. Will you be alright on your own?" she asked with concern.

"Yeah, I think you've done enough worrying about me," I smiled.

"Okay, then I'll see you tomorrow morning, goodnight Layric," she said as she let go of my hand, that I hadn't even noticed she was holding. Her soft fingers trickled down mine as she walked off, I just tilted my eyes up at the dark ceiling. What am I going to do?
