Chapter 36 (Irene)-
We all sat in silence in the room of team Epsilon, staring out window or looking down at the floor. The news that classes were canceled today was relieving to hear, until me and everyone else met with the grim news of last night's events, told to us by Axi and Eve, who had witnessed some of it first hand.
"They were just able to bust through the wall and kidnap him like that?" Eve asked no one aloud as she sat the foot of her bed, gazing at nothing in particular. "How incapable are our security forces?" She said to herself with a look of spite on her face.
"Doesn't matter now, what's done is done," Nevada responded as he twirled his pistol barrel. Eve looked up at him with lowered brows, but didn't say anything.
"I can't believe that security's being so relaxed about this! Our friend just got kidnapped and another nearly beat to death! They should be hunting those worthless scumbags down!" Franck yelled with frustration as he stood up.
"Nothing they can do; they scurried away before we could track them," Nevada once again added up.
"How can you be so nonchalant about this?" I asked as I turned to him with a glare.
"Pfff, I'm just bein' a realist." he replied as he stuck his gun on its hilt.
"This is just a lot to take in," Axi muttered and walked over next to Linena, who was staring silently out the window.
Knock knock knock. A calm fist tapped three times on the door. Eve stood up from the foot of her bed and walked over to the door, opening it. Two suited cops stood at the doorframe, looking rather on nerve.
"We need to see Axi Delfex and Irene Kara immediately," one of the cops said as he looked around the room, "Hmm, the rest of you may come along as well, since you may have affiliation with the event," he added as he lead us out the door. We were silent the entire walk until we reached the dorm Layric was kept in, the room Scav used to be in blocked with caution tape and a guard...
"The medics were able to clean him up enough to speak, though I must advise you to not rush him with questions; he seems a bit lost and upset. That's why we've been asked to retrieve his colleagues; we want to see if you junior huntsmen and huntresses can get involved in this matter and find out what happened," The Cop stated formally as the silent cop opened the door, allowing us in, "We'll be out here, to give you privacy," the first cop stated as the door was shut behind us.
Layric lied in a bloodstained bed, with his heavily bruised face and cast up body. His bed was flattened to where he was completely lying down, staring out a window. Eve, Axi, Leo, Linena and I walked up close to him, while the rest kept some distance. Layric turned towards us as we approached...he didn't speak, he just looked at us all.
"Layric..." Linena said softly as she knelt down and grabbed his hand; attempting to comfort him.
"Seems, I can't get out of this damn place..."he weakly smiled as he closed his eyes momentarily.
"Do you remember anything at all that happened?" Linena asked caringly.
"Guys, you don't need to look at me like that; I'm fine," he told as he attempted to sit up before grunting and dropping back down.
"Ok, no I'm not, but I'm not on my deathbed, I can promise you that," Linena smiled a bit at his response.
"We know you're not, we're all just worried about you," she responded.
"Don't, you've done enough of that. But yes, my thoughts are flooding back into my head; I remember exactly what happened," He said as his battered face turned dead serious.
