Chapter 15 (Scav)-
I woke up quietly and turned my head over to see Layric following my lead. We quickly grab our gear and head for the truck. "Now, how do you fix a tree?" Layric asked as we approached the Incident from last night.
"We pull the tree with the truck until it is back in place," I said while opening the door to the driver seat.
"The trees gonna crush the truck unless we manage to balance it out and reroot it somehow."
"We could use Axi's hat!" I said, self satisfied.
"Drop the hat debate!" Layric hissed.
"We could use you?" I suggested seriously.
"Can't you turn into a rhino hybrid?"
"Not worth the strain, I may accidentally break the tree if I do." I replied.
"Whatever, let's just use your truck but, keep it steady, we may be able to angle the tree correctly." Layric said, as he latched the winch to a crevice in the tree then, hopped in shotgun, next to me.
"Got it." I said starting up the engine. "You might want to cover your ears!" I quickly yelled as the engine roared to life. I threw the shift into reverse and pushed down on the main pedal at about half power. Through the front window, I could see the tires flinging dirt up as they attempted to pull the tree, I gave it more gas. Leaves shake as The base starts to tilt upwards. Students walking by begin to stare, the trees about straight up when I ease the pedal, wouldn't want this overgrown piece of firewood to land on my truck. As the tree eases back into place I hear something hit the side of my truck. I roll down the window to check, as a well sized rock knocks me in the side of the face. I look to see two dead brained idiots laughing and pointing at the fact that they hit me in the face.
I cut the engine and put the emergency brake on leaving the tree hanging by the winch. I exited the truck along with Layric who, jumped onto the hood and slid off onto my end. I step out of the truck and begin to walk towards the two assholes,
"Nice rock, think I'll keep it, here I'll pay you back with this arrow!" Layric said drawing his bow
"Don't," I said calmly putting my hand on his bow signaling to lower it. "You two are the guys Irene went on about."
"They're all yours," Layric said motioning his hand. "But, if they turn out to not be pushovers, I'm jumping in. Can't let you have all the glory."
"She talked about us?" the spiky haired guy wielding a spiked baseball bat who threw the rock interrupted with hope.
"Yeah all good things, you should probably ask her out," I said in a normal chatty manner.
"Really?" the other guy who had a stupid looking a bowl cut asked grinning. They both looked so oblivious that I couldn't even tell if they were being ironic or not.
"Yep trust me, she won't stop talking about you," I said, flashing back to a conversation last night.
"Those two idiots wouldn't shut up about how hot or pretty I am when I was walking around campus, or during initiation! They were definitely following me around, creeps." Irene ranted on.
"Hey how about you shut up, before you wake up everyone on campus!" I ended her self rightness attitude and put a pillow on my face.
"Didn't you knock over a tree?" Axi asked drowsily.
"You're gonna suffocate yourself again." Layric sluggishly muttered half looking at me.
"That's the plan," I said.
"Wait, again?" Axi asked with curiosity. Neither me nor Layric explained before we all dozed off.
"Hell yeah!" the spiky haired guy exclaimed shaking me from the memory.
"Good luck, and remember I never said anything," I said in a hinting way.
"Man, I bet I'll have some fun with her!" Bowl cut laughed.
"Yeah, we'll talk to her later, cya you faunus freaks!" Spike head laughed as he threw another rock towards us as he bolted off with his friend. Layric caught the rock before it hit his face and dropped it on the ground.
"We go after them?" Layric suggested clenching his fist.
"No, then it'll look like we attacked them, I think Irene will take care of it for us." I said walking toward the truck. "And if they do it again we'll do to them, what we did to the ursa," He put his hand out in a suggestive manner.
"Fair point, I think she's got them, getting lucky shots won't win a fight." He said gazing in their direction. "By the way, do you actually hate her? I don't think she's that bad." He questioned
"She does not know what it's like to live on the streets and, she is given everything she's wanted also, because of that, she takes the most important things for granted." I said getting back in the truck.
"Guess so, can't expect everyone to have the same morals and values as us though. Furthermore, many who come from places like us grow up to be scum." Layric stated as he calmly got into shotgun seat once again.
"Yeah and I hate them more than people like her." I replied starting the engine. I pushed off the parking brake and pull the tree the rest of the way back into place. It began to wobble a bit as I hovered my foot above the gas pedal in case it fell our direction. Luckily, the tree seemed to slump into the ground a foot or so then, Straightened out with only a slight tilt.
"I give it a 95%" Layric said squinting his eyes and holding up his thumb to scale the trees angle. "What would we do without that truck?"
"We'd be in hell," I stated with a hint of humor. Layric let out a low laugh then looked over towards me.
"Remember when you went head on with a Goliath and ended up in a stalemate, followed up by the ground giving way to some underground cavern?" He inquired, remembering a moment from a year ago.
"Yeah I remember that. What about the first time we meet four years ago," I said in remembrance.
"That was... eventful, to say in the least," he said. "Well anyhow, guess we oughta go investigate on what I saw that guy last night, won't have much time once classes start," Layric spoke, sounding more serious.
"Ok then we need to head toward the white fang hideout, that's our first lead," I said as I turned the wheel and began driving towards our destination.
