Chapter 8 (Irene)-

I was in the market district of the city looking at all the antiques when I saw the time. Good, I still had a bit left.

"Wow, I can't believe how different and unique Mystral is!" I exclaimed, smiling brightly at this beautiful necklace that I saw. There was so much stuff it was impossible to keep up with it all! I wanted to explore more of the city so I headed towards the outskirts. I calculated how much time I had with how far I could go and realized that I could actually go pretty far. I looked behind me and saw the city gleaming with magnificence. I turned back around and saw what would be considered the lower class. The homes were more or less all the same which gave the people here less of...a way to express themselves. I thought that it was kind of sad.

The path I was walking on lead through evenly divided sides that supported the town's houses; they were all tight and close together. I noticed that there were parks; playgrounds and natural parks, throughout the town. It kind of made me think that the city wanted to mature it's people into an open minded community. It intrigued my interests so much I lost track of time. Before I checked again I wandered to a group of faunas kids who were jumping around cheerfully at a playground set. They were kicking some kind of ball and to my surprise it rolled right next to me.

What seemed to be the group's leader came up to me, but for some reason I wasn't as intimidated as I would expect myself to be.

"Hey, that's mine!" The kid laughed and motioned for her to pass the ball. I felt my face crease into a smile before rolling the ball back. I thought happily back to my childhood...those faunas actually reminded me of back when I was a kid. They waved at me, and I raised my hand hesitantly, forming a wave back to them. I looked at my wrist and audibly gasped; I didn't have much time left!

I started off in a sprint, still waving at the kids before they were out of sight. I was already out of breath before I got to the inner city again. Would I make it? It was eight thirty now, I only had thirty left. Yeah, I'd make it, I decided.

I was right. With five minutes remaining, I made it to the school, but I was disappointed in myself. One of my goals was to always be early for every event...so much for that. They probably already designated half the teams at this point.

I stormed through the auditorium and all eyes turned on me. I had forgotten that this was technically a public event, so all the students were present. I became conscience of everyone's eyes on me.

"Ah, Ms.Karra. Perfect timing. You will be teaming with Scav against Layric and Axi. You already have history with them. I felt it would make for a great game," Headmistress Claren announced to everyone. I felt my face flush as everyone turned back around, as if my intrusion had never happened.

Game, I thought. Did she make these initiations for sport or for it's implied name? With that woman it's almost impossible to tell what to take seriously.

"Now. If you haven't guessed, find your partners and wait for the all call, we will begin shortly," Claren almost vanished off the stage, disappearing behind the other staff.

Oh great, Scav is my partner? I looked around for him; fortunately, he wasn't hard to miss. His armor gave him away immediately.

"Took you long enough, princess," He said when he spotted me approaching him. What did that mean? Oh, right, I got here late. I glared at him and ignored the comment.

"Yeah, sorry," I said sarcastically. I really hope this guy wasn't my permanent team member because it was blatantly obvious we wouldn't get along.

"Let's just get started, what weapon do you have?"

"Oh, you'll be impressed by this!" I exclaimed, trying to lighten the mood. I pulled out my katana from its sheathe on my back and my wakizashi from the sheathe on my left hipbone and held them next to each other for display.

"A sword, and a small sword," Scav said in a bored bland tone.

"Be patient," I said as I prepared to combine them. I put the two ends of the hilt together and they snapped into one weapon, but the rest of the transformation took place in a matter of seconds and boom, it became a machine gun.

"From an elegant and graceful weapon, to killing every grim in sight," I said with pride.

"How creative," Scav said, rolling his red eyes.

"Geez, you are a buzzkill, you know," I said while squinting my eyes at him, "Guess I won't even show you the knife built into my hilt then. What've you got?"

"You'll have to wait and see," Scav said with a smirk.

Just then the announcer spoke over the intercom saying the first match is about to begin. I looked at everyone one last time before I took to the field in combat, then walked to my designated spot.
