   Chapter 17 (Layric)-

"Hey Princess, wake up!" Scavenger shouted, making me jerk into consciousness. "We're almost at the White Fang camp." he followed up. I blinked a few times and slid my feet off the dashboard. I peered out the window to see the morning sun coming into full view.

"Took you long enough, how long was I out?" I yawned.

"An hour or two but only 10 minutes till we get there," Scav swiftly said as a man cuts him off followed by a string of profanity. He sighed then, turned off the main road into a road hardly anyone turns down. It leads past the bad part of town then branches off to a dirt road into the woods. The trip past the side of town took only about a minute before we reached the secluded dirt path. Scav turned into it and parked after a few minutes going straight.

"We've reached our destination," he said in a stereotypical GPS voice while pulling off the road deep into the woods. We kept going, driving past trees until an abandoned industrial building was in sight. Scav threw the truck in park and we both stepped out of the truck and headed to the bed.

"Alright, here's your suit and mask." Scav said as he handed me folded white fang garments with a mask on top. I swiftly changed from my current outfit into the new gear.

"Let's get this over with." Scav stated with a serious tone while sliding his mask on. We started for the entrance; when we got there, Scav knocked on the wall instead of the door. A panel slid open on the wall revealing a man's eyes.

"Born of water, drowns in water. A blood-thirsty beast you can barely see," He said.

"Mosquito," Scav and I said in bland unison.

"Oh please, that's easy," The guy at the door said, unlocking it anyway. It disappeared behind the wall to their right, revealing a hallway leading towards an open living area, or so it seemed.

I gave a confused look which the guy answered with,"New here? Down the stairs. You'll find it." Scav gave a curt nod and passed the guard without a word as I followed, keeping caution. This place wasn't like the others. Usually they were...more open.

We entered the living area and found stairs leading down to a basement area. I took the first step down and found it was more of a decline than I imagined. It went down about three stories.

We hit the bottom which exited into a small. It seemed someone had built this room for the sole purpose of a hideout, which wasn't surprising due to the layout of this place, I'd say that they had a way to make the staircase disappear.

The room would be pitch black if not for all the blue light illuminating from the terminals in the room. Garrett was sitting in front of the screens, almost absorbed in them. He looked like he was having a midlife crisis, well he was the right age, dressed in ruined jeans with a sweatshirt and a beanie with holes revealing curved ram horns on top of his head.

"Dude, do you have to get like this every time someone breaks up with you?" Scav said as we approached him in the corner of the room. I remembered a few years back when he was in a similar room for like six months straight because of a breakup.

"Yeah I know...so, you wanted information. There seems to be a trend, you know, maybe it's your turn to do me a favor?" He said, perking up a little and making sure we weren't followed into the room.

"Mhmm...and that information you mentioned?" Scav shrugged the suggestion away.

"Thought not..." Garrett tossed a shirt across the room,"Well I don't know much to be honest; just that there's been other sightings of the same occurrence around-"

"Where!" Scav interrupted him.

"Dude chill, I don't know where. I just know that their attitude has changed. They're...more on the defensive in this one area in a forest near here. And they seem to go in the same direction too. Come out from there, and heads back from the same place," Garrett pointed to a forest on his monitor he pulled up.

"Figures. Right next to the school. But...something does bother me,"

"Why have the only two sightings in our school been from our group?" I brought up

"Well, I do have a favor you might be interested in, could help you out as well as me," Garrett looked up at us, ignoring my thought. I nodded, telling him to continue.

"Well listen, you probably haven't noticed but I'm in a situation here, the Guys are suspicious of me." he muttered nervously.

"Maybe if you actually wore a disguise and stopped eating chips while at work, this wouldn't happen." Scav suggested

"I'm not exactly the dress up type. Okay look, I'm trying to lay off this hardcore spy business, This is the third time I've been surrounded by people who will kill me if they find who I am."

"Where do we come in?" I asked.

"Alright, so they're on edge, as in I'll get interrogated if I am caught leaving so I need you to... you know, distract them. I sighed to myself upon hearing this.

"I actually wouldn't mind that." Scav cracked his knuckles.

"It's a rare day when we don't get in an unexpected brawl," I said to Scavenger.

"A boring day too," he responded.

"Kill them or go easy?" I asked.

"Not to be a sadist but.... I'd prefer kill, because one: Any survivors would know I'm behind it if I'm gone. And two: sorry if this is overly emotional for you two blank boards but, these people are all filth! The things I overhear them bragging about are sickening, these people are worse than grim, killing them would be doing the world a favor." Garrett reasoned.

"You're probably right...okay. You got yourself a deal. We'll make it quick. Got business to attend to," Scav said dismissively.

"Right...well thanks for the visit. Don't get much of that. Hope you succeed in...your business. He said, going back to his computer screen

"Scav, we left our weapons in the truck, should we get them or, improvise?" I asked. "I'd prefer to at least ditch these clothes, don't want the white fang getting suspicious of spies.

"You're right, come on, we better head back to the truck, Let's be... inconspicuous."
