Chapter 9 (Axi)-
It was finally time for the arena fights and I was already sitting at the front of the bleachers, waiting for my partner. It was Layric by the way, the guy who almost stuck me with an arrow. I scanned the crowd in search of him, my eyes halted as I spotted a hooded figure staring me down like I had just kicked a dog. He made me uneasy, I didn't know if was his eyes in general or just the way he looked at me. His hood didn't shadow his eyes like it did when we met outside the school earlier so I could now clearly see his snake...or lizard; eyes along with a few unkempt golden blond hairs that dangled in front of his eyes. It also didn't help that he was walking towards me as if in a trance. He seemed annoyed, like he was holding himself back. Did I do something wrong?
Well, he'd have to get over it. I didn't like stressing over something that the other didn't put an effort into solving.
"Hey. So, you wanna help me or...?" I said standing up and giving a light wave, not sure how to get him to talk. He glared at me for a moment then spoke.
"I hope you're capable," he said in a dry tone, as he stood next to me and gazed at the empty arena. Capable? What'd he mean by that?
"Uh...yes?" I was beyond confused so that was the only thing I could have said without blatantly making a bad impression. At my old school, I practiced a lot with the standard weapons and found that I was good with the sniper and halberd so I decided to make a duo weapon with the two.
"So, You're fighting style, you have mid class armor and a halberd, which I'm assuming has some fancy trick?" he asked, still not even looking at me.
I cocked my head to the side and nodded, "Yeah, you can say that. Wanna see?" I didn't wait for his answer. I spun my Halberd in my hand after reaching for it, and after a complete cycle it was suddenly a sniper.
I lifted my hat and my face mask fell into place, connecting automatically around my eyes. It was mostly goggles that didn't actually do much to protect my face. It was used for my night vision; part of the reason I wanted to be part faunas. I thought the goggles didn't look too good, but hey, whatever gave me the win worked for me. It was connected as if it was a visor that was integrated at the tip of the hat, and it wrapped snugly around my head, the band mostly invisible to the eye. It looked like it was just there; as if those were my biological eyes.
I raised an eyebrow to Layric and activated my night vision for effect. It made the outsides of my eyes look like they glowed red. The goggles automatically compensated for the brightness if they malfunctioned and turned on during the day; or in my case, if I was being snarky.
"Hmmm," he responded glancing over with one eye.
"Really? No 'Heyyy...that's pretty good' or anything like that?" I stared at him in disbelief. He shrugged and kept his eyes forward. I sighed and followed his gaze, hugging my sniper so when the match started I could begin in a comfortable sprint.
"Huntresses and Huntsmen, are you ready for the brawls!" The alarms went off...Show time.
