The cold wind snaked down Nico's spine and he shivered. The chilly night wind was colder tonight. Shadows shrouded the darkened alleyways, occasionally scared off by cars' headlights when they pass the streets. It was kind of Nico's thing. Ever since he'd discovered that he could sneak up to the rooftop of the apartment building he lived in, he's spent countless nights up there, freezing his butt off. But it gave him solitude, and allowed his thoughts to consume him.
"Hey."
Nico felt a pair of lips brush his temple lightly, and he shuddered, no because of the cold wind, but the sensation of sparks that shot down his spine. It made goosebumps rise on his skin.
"Hey." He replied, and angled his head upwards so Will could kiss him properly.
Will smiled at his silent plea, and granted his wish.
"Why are you up here, again? What's wrong?" Despite himself, Nico smiled at the blond, who was now settling in front of him.
A smile that was less rare nowadays.
"Nothing. I just like coming here."
In response, Will snorted, but he pressed no further, instead opting to watch the surroundings below.
There was just something in looking at someone when they were distracted, or unaware of the fact that were being scrutinized. It felt like you were seeing the person in their truest form, carefree, and not hidden behind any mask.
And now, Nico was looking at his boyfriend in a completely different way. He thought about the last few months, when he felt...happy. And to think, when he'd first met Will, he despised him. Nico briefly wondered if the hatred had come from the fact that he hated those overly optimistic types of people or if it had come from the way Will made him feel.
Possibly both.
The way Will had sent the butterflies fluttering in his stomach when Nico was acquainted with him made Nico's self defence system kick into high gear. He immediately believed that Will was a horrible person and henceforth, despisable. But as time passed, the secret stares weren't so secret, the longing weren't so easy to handle. The feeling was new, different, scary, even.
And that made Nico wonder, what did Will see in him? Nico wasn't exactly like those male supermodels, neither was he likable. He was, admittedly, an emo goth. Sort of. He was moody most of the times, almost never engaging in conversations.
Not to mention...the scars that littered his forearms.
The point was, Nico was the very definition of imperfection.
So why, of all the gay boys in school, did Will choose Nico?
What does he have that the others don't?
"You're overthinking, again!" Will's tone was playful, and a rueful smile crept to Nico's lips.
"Yeah." That was all Nico could come up with.
"So...tell me. Penny for your thought."
"You're gonna need a hell lot more pennies with all that's going on in my head."
Will chuckled, and motioned for him to continue.
Nico sighed, and weighed the possibility of lying to Will, but then decided to just pour his heart out.
Because, truly, he's never trusted anyone enough to give them his whole heart, except Will. Something in him just told him that it'll be okay. Okay to be vulnerable for once, okay to be stripped from all the masks Nico's hidden behind.
And that it's okay, sometimes, to give your heart to someone.
End.
