Nico swaggered into the infirmary room like the wound at the side of his torso didn't hurt one bit.
"Again?"
Nico glanced toward the familiar face of Will Solace, whose arms were crossed over his chest, blond eyebrow raised.
"Hey. It wasn't my fault this time."
Will's face broke into a gentle smirk, and Nico pretended not to notice the way his heart skipped a beat.
"Sit. At least it's stopped bleeding."
Nico took a seat on the bed, and watched silently at how Will rummaged drawer for some nectar and bandages.
"So...what happened this time?"
Will set down the bandages, and gave Nico the nectar to drink.
"Well, it was like a normal training session and then this child comes around the corner and stabbed me in the side."
Will stifled the urge to laugh. "Stabbed you? Nah, it's more of a shallow gash, but okay."
His nonchalant sarcasm made Nico's heart speed up again.
"Shut up, it felt like a stab."
"Mhmm." Will's fingers hooked themselves underneath Nico's shirt, and gingerly pulled it off of Nico's torso, painfully slowly, like it was a deliberate attempt to stare at Nico's body, but he could've easily lied and said that he didn't want to hurt Nico.
The fact that Nico didn't know which was true frustrated him.
"Oooh, yeah, that looks like it hurts."
"No shit, Sherlo-" Nico's voice died into nothing when warm fingers gently prodded the edges of the wound. "Ck."
"You are so stupid, you know that?"
"How am I the stupid one?"
"I don't know. You just are. A giant, annoying, dork."
Nico rolled his eyes, and watched the sky change from a light blue to a gradient of salmon pink to pastel blue.
Will bent down, and Nico carelessly glanced at him. Nico's heart nearly went into cardiac arrest.
Will's eyelashes were golden.
They weren't blond, like his hair, oh, no, no, they were golden.
The setting sun had lowered itself from the sky so perfectly, so amazingly lined up with Will's eyelashes that the sun's rays bounced off Will's eyelashes, and they glowed.
They glowed a beautiful, gentle, glow of gold.
A golden so gold it was magical, ethereal, terrifyingly out of this world, a gold that promised riches and secrets.
Nico thought that if Will were to blink at that exact second, that exact moment, his eyelashes would've dissolved and sprinkled golden fairy-like dust all over his cheekbones, nose, cheeks and the contrast of gold and tan would've been so striking, and stunningly beautiful.
"Nothing to say?"
Will's hooded eyes looked up, finishing his bandaging, and Nico resisted the urge to burst into tears at the sheer beauty of the blond boy.
The sun now no longer illuminated Will's eyelashes, but his eyes and lips.
Will's eyes were unnaturally blue, the colour of the afternoon sky, and now the blue seemed to have grown sunflowers in them and suddenly Nico was looking into a sunflower field under the blue skies, and suddenly Will's blue eyes changed to become momentarily green, and all Nico could do was restrain himself from kissing the boy;
