"That's ridiculous." Nico concluded, linking his fingers together with Will's.

"C'mon, just try and picture it." Will argued, the coffee cup in his hands wobbling dangerously.

"I tried, and it was stupid. Who wants reverse mermaids in the world? That's fucking horrifying."

Will opened his mouth to speak, before he thought better of it.

"I guess you're right. They would be causing nightmares."

Nico giggled, and took a sip from his cup. He liked these ludicrous conversations between the both of them. Whether it was about a horrific sea creature or conspiracies or imaginary friends, Nico always enjoyed them. He could strike up a conversation with the most peculiar conversation starter and Will wouldn't even bat an eyelid. Nico was sure that if other people were to overhear the conversations they had sometimes, they'd be screaming bloody murder and demand for the both of them to be placed in the nearest asylum.

"What are you thinking about?"

Nico looked up from his shoes to face Will. And in the exact same moment, the moonlight illuminated the features of his boyfriend, highlighting his cheekbones and jawline. Nico felt his breath being robbed away. Will was the very definition of beauty to Nico.

"Nothing, just about the mermaids things again." Somehow, he'd managed to eke that sentence out.

Will's grin widened, but he said nothing. Comfortable silence washed over them, and Nico couldn't help but smile to himself. Silences like these were moments when he truly took a step away from his life and ponder about everything. Like right now, he'd always wondered what he'd ever done to deserve this, to deserve Will, to deserve friends like the Seven, to deserve happiness. Jason told him it was because of all the sacrifices he's made for the Gods, and Hazel said that it was also because of  all the endless suffering and turmoil he's endured.

But sometimes, Nico just couldn't believe he had this. A beautiful, kind, loving boyfriend, amazing, welcoming friends, acceptance from the Gods, and the world. It was almost too good to be true.

"Hey, Will?" The words slipped out of Nico's mouth by accident.

"Yeah?" Their gazes locked, and Nico smiled.

"I love you."

"I love you too, Death Boy."

Nico chuckled at the affectionate nickname, and flushed. That was the first time they'd ever exchanged the 'I love yous.' The time never seemed right.

But right now, under the beautiful night sky, watching the snowflakes that fell gently onto the earth, their fingers fitted together like puzzle pieces, it felt...right.

End.
