"Happy birthday, Neeks!" Before Nico could reply, Hazel had launched herself on him, both of them landing in a tangle of limbs at the doorway of the Hades cabin.

"Thanks, Hazel. I really didn't need any presents, you know?" Nico murmured, eyeing the wrapped box tucked under her arm.

"Nonsense! Guys! Quick! Come in, I've got him pinned down."

Again, before Nico had even begun to process what Hazel had said, a herd of people ran into his cabin, carefully sidestepping the two on the floor.

"Wha..?  Hazel-"

"Shhhhh! Come on, it's your first birthday with us, we wanted to make it special." Hazel told him, before helping him up.

A small flutter of happiness lighted up in his chest.

"Me first!" Annabeth said, as soon as Nico took a seat next to Frank and Hazel.

"Geez, Annabeth." Percy groaned, and dissolved in chuckles when Annabeth shot him a glare.

"Shut up, Seaweed Brain. I specifically chose this book."

Nico laughed at their gentle banter, trying to ignore the slight pang in his heart.

Briefly, he wondered where Will Solace was. But as Annabeth handed him her present, he pushed to thought out of his mind and ripped open the wrapper (amazingly well-wrapped,of course) and took out a 'Architecture in the Underworld' book.

"How...Annabeth." Nico remarked, but held onto it.

He wasn't interested in Architecture, but he was glad Annabeth actually cared.

"My turn!" Percy and Leo chorused, elbowing each other viciously, both their gifts managing to make it at Nico's feet.

Nico rolled his eyes in affection. These idiots.

He opted to open Leo's first, laughing to himself when he heard Leo's cry of triumph and Percy's groan of annoyance.

He tore open the bright neon pink wrapper, wondering if Leo had chosen that wrapper specifically, pulling out a beautifully hand-crafted sword sheath.

"Wow, Leo. It's...it's..fucking beautiful."

Black and sleek, it was exactly Nico's style. It fitted his sword perfectly.

"Aw, shucks."

"Okay, enough! Open mine! Please." Percy chimed in, and Nico picked up the rather oddly shaped package.

A small vial of greek fire was what Nico had been given. "Thanks, Percy. How'd you know that I needed this?"

Nico said dryly, but a hint of amusement was evident.

"Does that mean you don't like it?"

"Nah, I love it. Who knows, I could use this..."

"Nico. Don't kill anybody." Hazel said sharply, and Nico laughed.

"Fiiiine."

"Me next! Me next!" Piper finally burst, tossing her neatly wrapped gift forward.

Nico caught the playful look that Jason playfully sent Percy. It looked like a,'Our girlfriends are too excited man.'

Percy returned it with a half-smirk.

Again, the pang in his chest returned.

It had been a while since he'd seen Will. He felt just a teeny bit hurt that Will could've forgotten his birthday. Nico didn't celebrate his birthdays all too often, but he hoped for at least a wish. Instinctively, he cast a hopeless glance at the door.
