In another life, baby.

Nico aimed a blow at the jaw of the blond, the pain of the punch screaming a mind-numbing ache up his wrist.

The other boy flew backward, and stayed on the dusty ground, coughing up crimson blood so dark it looked black.

"You promised! You fucking swore it wouldn't end like this!" Nico screamed, fingernails digging into his palm, drawing blood from the crescents.

"Promises are meant to be broken."

"FUCK YOU!" Anger coursed through his veins, and the pain of his swollen wrist was forgotten as he marched toward the other boy, and grabbed his chin, making them see eye to eye.

"I fucking hate you. I should never have-"

The blond's curls were matted with sweat and blood from the open wound on his head. He managed to laugh humorlessly despite his bloodied lip and the blood staining his teeth and chin.

"I'd hate me too, but baby, please."

Tears filled Nico's eyes hearing the endearing term, sounding so broken. "Baby, please, you have to, okay? They'll kill us both if you don't."

"Fuck you, William Solace. Fuck you."

Nico stood up harshly, and kicked him in the stomach. Will doubled over, groaning in pain. "Anytime."

Was he making a joke? He was joking at a time like this!?

Nico blinked, and a few stray tears trailed down his cheeks. "How can you be joking!? I'm literally going to kill you, and you think it's a joke?!"

All control was thrown out the window. Nico's tears finally fell freely from his too-bright, too-shiny eyes. "You think our love was a joke!? We're being sentenced to Death if one of us doesn't die, Will!"

"That's what we signed up for, when we acted on our feelings. We can't fall in love, not in this line of work, you know. You know, Nico." Will's voice was thick with tears. "And you, Neeks, you have to kill me, because you've got so much left to do."

"NO!" Nico swiftly sent another kick onto Will's rib with a sickening crack and Will gasped in a harsh breath. "Why do I have to it!? Do you know how hard...how fucking hard this is on me?! You've been in this job for years! You could've killed me, EASY! Why'd you make me do this?! Why, why, why, Will, please, please tell me, I'm-I can't, I can't breathe. Everything-"

"Nico." Will had managed to prop himself on the wall, breathing growing even more shallower by the minute.

"WHAT?" He had intended it to come out as an outraged yell, but it left his lips broken and keening.

"Come here." Will coughed up even more blood, and eyes began to dull. "Please."

Nico brushed his tears away, before kneeling down beside Will.

Will's trembling fingers cupped Nico's chin, leading him closer to his face. "Who said killing you was easy?"

"You're a better fighter, you've been an assassin ages before I-"

"And it never got easy, it just got numb." Nico allowed a whimper to escape him when he felt Will's familiar fingers trace the shapes and lines of his face.

"You, Nico. You taught me not to be numb. You taught me the lesson that I was deprived of when I was younger. That it is okay to love, to be vulnerable. You told me that it was okay to feel. You mean as much to me as I do to you, Nico, understand that, remember that, believe that."

"No. No. No, it can't end this way, please, please, please. We can run away-"

"They'll find us, you know that. They always will."
